    1. [PABEAVER-L] CRAIL / Center Church Cemetery mysteries.
    2. G. R. Tafini
    3. Ruth GAGLIARDI brought up some interesting questions about the grave of her ancestor Kezia wife of Jonathon C. COLEMAN who was listed in several cemetery lists. There are several clues to this mystery in: Beaver County Cemeteries Vol. IV Closson Press; 1986. Page 18 CRAIL CEMETERY - Raccoon Township, Beaver Co., PA "Copied from Monuments in Crail Farm & Center Church Cemetery - July 1936 by Langnecker, Martin, Sarsfield & Saul" ------- "This is No. 27 on the 1936 WPA list." The list includes 14 inscriptions of burials from 1848-1863 with surnames: BARNS COLEMAN, Jonathon Aug. 9, 1863 Age 99 CRAIL POTTS PURDY RAMBO, Michael 1863 age 31 or 72? RAND page 58 Has an article from the Tri-State Genealogical Society Newsletter Vol. II No. 6, June 1981 written by my Mother, Dorothy (ROBINSON) TAFINI. It includes the inscriptions of 12 stones form burials 1851-1873 that we read at a small cemetery on Moffet Mill Road in Raccoon Twp., Beaver Co., PA in 1968. I believe that this is the same cemetery that was recorded as the CRAIL cemetery in 1936 by the WPA. There were 2 gravestones that appear on both lists: Jonathon C. COLEMAN Died Jan. 9th 1863 in his 99 yr. Footstone J. C. C. Michael RAMBO Died Aug. 31, 1862 72 yr. 9 mo. 8 d. Footstone M. R. I suspect that some of the older stones that were read in 1936 had disintegrated or fell over. We must have uncovered some stones that had fallen and had not been read in 1936. On a return trip to the cemetery in April 1981 these six gravestones that were recorded in 1968 could not be located: Kezia wife of J. C. COLEMAN Died Jan. 9th 1852 in her 66 yr. Elmira J. daughter of J & P RAMBO Died Mar. 25, 1866 aged 1 yr. 8 m. 25 da. Footstone E.J.R. Mary Ann wife of Wm. RAMBO died May 3, 1851 8[7?] yr. Mary M. wife of P. M. RAMBO Died Oct. 31, 1851 In the 19th yr. of her age Michael RAMBO [mentioned above] Samuel REED Died Sept. 9, 1873 aged 80 yrs 3 mos. 13 ds. The cemetery property owner told us that there had been some vandalism there in recent years. ---------- page 4 BAKER (FIGLEY) Cemtery, Center Twp., Beaver Co., PA Recorded by Denver L. WALTON Oct. 30, 1971. "Severely vandalized over the years. Only six stones left upon my visit, Oct. 30, 1971 -- none in proper position. George BAKER, pioneer settler of Beaver Count, is buried here. This is no. 35 on the 1936 WPA list. (called Figley farm Cem.)" His list includes Margaret BAKER, Elizabeth SHORT and 4 of the missing stones from the CRAIL / Center Church Cemetery: COLEMAN, Kezia w/o J. C. d. 1- 9-1852 66 yr RAMBO, Mary M. w/o P. M. d. 10-31-1851 In 19th yr of marriage RAMBO, Michael d. 8-31-1862 72 yr 9m 8d REED, Samuel d. 9- 9-1863 80 yr 3m 13d ------- page 22 FIGLEY Cemetery - Beaver Co., PA "Copied from monuments in July 1936 - by Langnecker, Martin, Sarsfield & Saul." 4 BAKERs who were buried from 1802-1872 ------- It would seem that the CRAIL / Center Church Cemetery in Raccoon Twp. was vandalized after 1968 and 4 of the missing gravestones found their way to the BAKER / FIGLEY Cemetery in Center Twp. by 1971.
