    1. Re: [PABEAVER-L] Benjamin Stephens/Stevens
    2. Dear Jan, In responce to your query about St. Peter's Church--are you talking about a Catholic Church? I have a book, "The Birth and Growth of Catholicism in Beaver County" published in 1974. S.S. Peter and Paul was the first Catholic Church in Beaver County. FYI It was built in the 1830's on land donated by a non Catholic. Contributions were solicited for several years for the building of the Church and it is believed the construction may have finally begun in 1836 with the dedication in 1837. There were sporadic visits of priests from Pittsburgh from about 1825 to 1831 and before that anyone from the Catholic community of Beaver County had to go to St. Patrick's in Pittsburgh to be married or baptised. Actually this book is pretty informative about the close surrounding areas during the time period of the building of the church. It mentions many names although I did not see your Stephens/Stevens surname. The book also lists a small handful of marriages (5 from 1849-1852) baptisms (5 from 1847-1848). There are about 24 names of people buried in Daugherty's cemetery from 1847-1868 as well as information about the beginnings of the cemetery itself. If anyone is interested I will list surnames listed in this book and the names of places at the time that have changed. I have lived here most of my life and I just learned some interesting things from a quick look at this book that I have had on my shelf for many years. Judee
