Georgetown is supposed to be the second oldest town in Beaver Co. Many riverboat captains, owners and builders lived in Georgetown. The villege supplied workers for many of the boats that plied the Ohio River and further downsteam. I would like to collect information on those families who lived in Georgetown, Smithsferry, Glassgow, Shippingport, etc. Of special interest to me is the time of the Civil War. Were these boats used by the Union for war efforts? Carol/Pa >> The sister of my ancestor McKinley married a Capt. Matthew Day of Allegheny City who purchased riverboats before the outbreak of the Civil War and he apparently made out quite well financially by reason of his speculative investments (per notes of my great-grandfather...I am trying to learn of the identity of his mother, a McKinley, who died before 1865).
