Both these posts came in today on a list I am on and I am passing them on to this list as they may be of help to someone ..I copied and pasted both posts Sharon TX Boston Passenger Arrivals for 1820-1891 are indexed for 1848-1891 available on NARA microfilm at Family History Centers. Customs Passenger Lists for Boston dated earlier than 1 Jan 1883 were destroyed by a fire. However, the State Department Transcripts cover from 1820 to 1827 (with some gaps) and copies of original lists from 1820 to 1874 (with gaps). A Massachusetts alien act of 1848 required a bond for each passenger specifying names, ages, occupations, birthplaces, dates of arrival, and names of vessels. The "State Lists" cover 1848 to 1891. The Massachusetts State Archives (220 Morrisey Blvd., Boston MA 02125) hold these lists, not the National Archives. You can purchase a photocopy for $.50. The NARA holds indexes on microfilm. More than 2 million passengers arrived at the port of Boston. The Family History Library Catalog numbers are: Passenger lists of vessels arriving at Boston, 1820-1891 : with index 1848-1891. I don't believe it is a complete index, but since it is searchable and includes Ireland, thought it might help someone.
