Hi All, I'm the one researching Thomas and Sarah Clifton in Beaver County. James Morrow, you found death info and mentioned they were buried at Service United Presbyterian Cemetery. Thank you very, very much. Does anyone know where Service United is located? Thomas and Sarah are, I'm convinced, my 3rd GGParents. James H. Clifton, born Jan 29, 1822, is my GGGF......and all data points to his being one of the three unidentified sons you mentioned. James H. Clifton married Eliza Jane Knowles, also of Beaver County, and they moved to East Liverpool, Colunbiana County, OH. Thanks for any info!! Nancy Clifton
Hi Nancy, If you want to see the location of Service United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, aka John Anderson Memorial Cemetery, you can do it using Google Map in your browser. Put "Google Map" in the search block, and then select the first item which should be "Google Maps (maps.google.com). When the window appears put "Beaver County, PA" in the search block. The map will come up with the Beaver County Airport at the center of the map. Move the zoom bar down (zoom out) to about the 7th notch. Hit the down arrow once. Now you should see Shippingport just below the Ohio River, and below that McCleary and Mechanicsburg, on Route 18. Just up from Mechanicburg, to the right, is a blue body of water. That is the Ambridge Reservoir. The church and cemetery are on the north shore of the reservoir. Hit the down arrow to move the reservoir to the center of the window. Move the zoom bar up to the 5th step from the top. Now you can see the labeling for the reservoir and the Service Church Road off PA Route 18. The point where the Service Church Road crosses the small inlet should be at the center of the window. Move the map as necessary to get that point at the center of the window. (My browser will let me hold down the mouse and a hand will appear to grip the window to let me move it, which is much easier and more precise that using the arrows.) With the zoom bar at step 2, and the reservoir stretched across the window, with the inlet in the center, select Satellite from the four choices in the upper right corner of the window. At this point my zoom bar has moved back to step 4 and the cemetery is visible on the point of land by the inlet. Move the zoom bar up to step 3 and hit the up arrow once to center the cemetery. You can now see the church. Move the zoom bar up to step 2 and you can see the tombstones in the cemetery and it fills the window. You can see a car in the parking lot by the church. You can't tell it from the picture but that is a steep hill behind the church, up to below the circle. It is easier to go up the road through the woods, enter the cemetery from the top and come down the hill. I have written the above details for the benefit of those who are not use to playing with Google Maps and satellite pictures. If you have experience with them all you have to know is where the point of interest is located. Good luck.
