    1. [PABeav'r] Darlington County?
    2. I am trying to locate the birthplace of William James Bertram. A certified copy of birth record filed in Columbiana County, Ohio says he was born in Lawrence Township of Darlington County, Pennsylvania. Is there anything about this that makes sense? There is no Darlington County in Pennsylvania. But was there around 1879? Did it have a Lawrence Township? Can you help this Buckeye out? Brian L. Cole Researching Coles from England to MD to OH

    2. Brian, There is a Darlington Twp in the Northwest corner of Beaver County adjacent to the Lawrence County line. The 1880 US Census is on line on the LDS website. It is searchable by name. 3. There is a Darlington Township in Beaver County. It adjoins Columbiana County in Ohio. My Edwards ancestors lived in Darlington from 1860-1880, where they apparently died. They had many connections in Columbiana Ohio; in 1865 picked up mail at East Palestine, OH (Columbiana County), and several were buried in Columbiana. Beaver County was created 1800 from Washington and Allegheny Counties. Later, Lawrence County was created from Beaver County. This could account for the mixed locations you have encountered.
