Hi, I'm new to your list and hope someone sees a connection with this family. Family lore says our first Hamilton in the US was Robert Hamilton b. about 1761 in Scotland (BUT in the 1880 census, his son Milton claims that both his parents were born in PA, so we don't know if there is a generation missing?). Robert m. Lilia Maria Polk. He was in the US by 1813 in Beaver Co. PA, went to Meigs Co. Ohio in the 1850s. He was a school teacher, as was his son, Milton Josiah Hamilton (also a shoemaker), b. 1816 who m. Sophia Lyons. She was born in PA as were both her parents (1880 census). Milton's children b. in Beaver Co. were Octavius Augustus b.1848, Hyrcanus Bames (Bemos, Barnes?), Josephus Boyd Hamilton, Mary Elizabeth (b. Lawrence county); these remaining children all born in Meigs Co. OH: Thena Anne b.1856, Milton Josiah, Curtis, William Howard b.1868. Joseph Boyd Hamilton's children were Thena, Sarah, Estelle, Cora and Abner. We know there were Boyds in the family, but we're not sure how they are connected. This may be your 'missing generation': Hamilton, Robert, Died, merchant of Beaver, age 40 inst., published 9 Jul 1830. No listing for the above in the Beaver County Wills 1800-1900. There are a number of Hamilton's in my Beaver books, but not with the given names you listed. Have you written to the Beaver County Genealogical Society (BCGS) requesting information?
