Hi everyone! The Census Bureau receives numerous requests to supply information on name frequency. In an effort to comply with those requests, the Census Bureau has embarked on a names list project involving a tabulation of names from the 1990 Census. These files contain only the frequency of a given name, no specific individual information Check for your name at this URL: _http://www.census.gov/genealogy/names/_ (http://www.census.gov/genealogy/names/) Joan Researching: BARTKO, BROWN, BUCKELL, BULGER,BUYNA, DEKANIC, FERGUSON, HILL, HRICIK, LADY, PIPICH, POTERIE, STRATIGOS, SULLIVAN,RANKIN, WEAVER ( USA, AUSTRALIA, CROATIA, GREECE, SLOVAKIA, IRELAND, ENGLAND)
Hi, It's been quite a while since I've posted an update on the family of Jacob Van Gorder and thought it was about time. You can check my Web site at: http://mysite.verizon.net/bowers.clan/id17.html I've been digging around in the records of New Jersey and New York and have come up with some very interesting items. I have almost all of the Van Garden/Gorder info typed in but am still working on their allied families - which are quite interesting. As always, I'm interested in any additional info that might be floating around out there. Brian
Searching for family of Daniel ROMACK and Josephine BUCKELL. This couple obtained a marriage license in Allegheny County on July 14, 1898. The license shows: Daniel was born in Beaver County, PA on January 8, 1872 (listed as “Jany”) Josephine was born in Sewickley, PA on July 18, 1873. There are no parents names on the copy of the license and no minister’s return. It is known that Josephine was the daughter of Thomas and Esther Buckell who lived on Beaver Road in Sewickley from 1872 to 1880 and later Esther was a widow living in Allegheny City in 1900. Josephine gives her address on the license application as 110 Robinson Street Allegheny City in 1898 which was also the address of Esther. Search of the Census does not show this family in Pennsylvania in 1900, 1910, 1920, etc. Too bad the 1890 census was burned! Any information on this family greatly appreciated. Hi List, I am searching for Lilly who lived on Beaver Road in 1880. She was the daughter of Thomas and Esther Buckell. She was born ~1875. Her parents were born in England. The surname was often spelled Buckel and Buckle. The family later moved to Allegheny City (now North Side of Pittsburgh) after 1890 but Lilly's sisters married in Beaver County at a very young ages (~15 years old). I thought perhaps Lilly married someone in Beaver also. Any information appreciated. Burgettstown Washington Co., not Westmoreland. I have another branch in Westmoreland and am more in tune with it, so I keep slipping and say Westmoreland when I mean Washington... duh! LOL... Cornelia
Hello, I would write to the Beaver County Genealogical Society, they can check the tax records, wills, orphan court records and the deed records. Those records can be a gold mine of information regarding genealogy. Remember, taxes were collected every year, the census taker only came around every ten years. Also, tax collectors often made notes on the records, like who was single or recently deceased or who had to have the county pay for the education of their children. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabecgs/contact.htm Alice -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Edwin and Cornelia Moore" <fenenga@connpoint.net> > I am looking for the parents of this couple- > Thomas B. >From Family Tree Magazine Email Update 04-27-2006: --- Pennsylvania's state library has posted microfilmed images of scrapbooks containing newspaper obituaries published between Oct. 16, 1891, and March 3, 1904. Search for your ancestor's obituary at http://205.247.101.31:2005/ cdm4/search.php (note the search page doesn't give you much clue where you are). At the bottom of the page, unclick everything except State Library of Pennsylvania--Genealogy. Type your keywords (such as a name or place) in the All of the Words field and click Search. If you're not sure whether Great-grandma would be listed under her maiden or married name, enter both surnames in the Any of the Words field and type her first name in the All of the Words field. The Proximity tab lets you type two search terms and specify the number of words apart they can occur, letting you net obituaries containing variations such as john smith; john charles smith; and smith, john c. Still can't find the deceased? Try searching for people who might be listed as survivors. Results show thumbnails of each matching obituary, its page number in the original scrapbook and surnames of everyone whose obituaries appear on that page. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge the page; use the icons at the top to zoom in and navigate around the article.
Page 754--James A. Brewer, farmer, P.O. New Brighton, was born in Allegheny county in 1820, and came with his parents. Elias and Hanna (Shay) Brewer, to Beaver county in 1830. Elias was a farmer by occupation, and came originally from Eastern Pennsylvania. He had four sons and seven daughters. James A., the second son, started in life without a dollar, and, as a result of his industry and perseverance, now owns 128 acres of land, second in quality to none in Pulaski township, with large and commodious buildings. He was married, in 1842, to Jennie, daughter of Robert Moore. Mrs. Brewer died in 1866, the mother of ten children. Mr. Brewer is a member of the United Presbyterian church; politically he is a Democrat. Sure this might help you get started with your researching. I am trying the Beaver County letter list because my ancestors were enumerated in Hanover, Beaver, PA in 1860 and 1870. In 1850 and 1880, they were enumerated in Washington County, PA. I guess there were boundry changes and imagine that they lived in the same town for all those years. I also imagine that some of their history may be connected with Beaver County.
