I have a PA guidebook that lists Witherspoon Drovers Tavern as an historical site at Frankfort Springs, in Hanover Twp. I'm writing a history of my Witherspoon ancestors from that area and would like to have a photo of that tavern. Is there anyone who lives near there and would be willing to take a photo for me? I would be forever grateful! Martha God Bless America Martha Kelley Email: kelley805@aol.com

Hi, The National Archives is planning to cut the hours it is open for research. No weekends. No nights. That means you have to take some vacation (or wait until retirement) if you ever plan to do research at the facilities in the Washington area. If you want to complain, go to the links before. Brian Subject: NARA rule to change research/exhibit hours in DC area; public comment request ** High Priority ** The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) published today, July 25, 2006, in the Federal Register an interim final rule requesting public comment on a change in the hours for conducting research at the National Archives Building (DC) and National Archives at College Park (MD) and for visiting the Rotunda and National Archives Experience on the Constitution Ave side of the National Archives Building. § This rule and the changed hours will go into effect October 2, 2006. § Comments on this document must be received by September 8, 2006. See the rule at the link below or at www.regulations.gov for information on the ways to submit comments. § A public meeting relating to the rule will be held at the Jefferson Room in the National Archives Building at 1 pm on August 3. Please enter through the Special Events entrance on the Constitution Avenue side of the building (between 7th St. and 9th St. NW). Reservations are not required but space may be limited. § A link to the rule is at: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20061800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2006/pdf/E6-11763.pdf BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE RULE: NARA is revising its regulations with respect to research room and museum hours at our facilities in the Washington, DC, area. The operating costs for these facilities have been increasing every year, particularly for staffing, security services and utilities. In these times of fiscal restraint, NARA has determined reluctantly that it is necessary to curtail service during time frames when only a small percentage of our users are present to ensure that we are able to provide quality services to customers during the times of greatest public use while we are also conducting other mission-critical duties. Additional information about this rulemaking is available in the text of the document at the URL above.

Carol, The only Lucinda Potts I have was born in 1839, the daughter of Thomas (b. 1800 His parents were Noah Potts and Barbara Heckathorn) and Nancy (b. 1798 Her parents were Nathan Potts and Mary Chamblin) Potts. Their children were Nathan -1819, Thomas 1827, John 1829, Mary 1835, Lucinda 1839, Lynda, Julia Ann and 7 unknown children. Looks like this is the same family you have. Do you know the names of the other 6 children? I appreciate the information you've provided on Mahala. I didn't have her name at all. If I can provide any additional information on the Potts, please let me know. Modena
Colleen, Imperial, PA is a town in the southwest corner of Allegheny County, PA, not Beaver Co., PA. It is to the northwest of Bridgeville and southwest of Pittsburgh. I don't know if Imperial had an earlier name or if Wales was an earlier name of a nearby town. The whole area surrounding the Ohio River is known as the Ohio Valley. It extends even into Ohio and West Virginia as the river goes between those states from its inception in Pittsburgh. Hope this helps. Hi Modena, In regards to Wales, Ohio Valley, PA: This sounds like a description of a location rather then the name of a location. Historians say that Wales was the original name that William Penn wanted to call modern day Pennsylvania. He even suggested New Wales because the area reminded him of Wales in Great Britain. That proposal got voted down. Therefore I'm wondering if you should be looking for your ancestors in the Ohio Valley of Pennsylvania -- mostly in Beaver County, PA? Especially in light of the family found by Carol in Georgetown, PA which is in Beaver County. Just a thought Judith Anderson
Modena I am also a Potts researcher. Have Mahala Potts Miller in 1850 Georgetown censes married to Hiram Miller. She later had children to David (?) Hays. Some of her children are listed with her in Georgetown 1880 census. Daughters Matilda and Rachel are also in 1880 census as visiters with Mahala's sister Lucinda in E Liverpool, Oh. census. The daughters are listed as Hays. Mahala, son William, daugthers Matilda and Rachel, plus gs William are also in Georgetown census as last name Hays.
