    1. [PABEAVER] Georgetown churches, 1850s
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Haney, Koonse, Kountz Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.beaver/1886/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am trying to learn what churches existed in Georgetown in the 1850s. Was there a Methodist church? My ggg-grandmother Sarah Catherine KOONSE (or KOUNTZ, many variants) was born at Wellsville, Columbiana Co., OH on 15 May 1831 and was married to Capt. David Clinton HANEY in Columbiana Co., OH on 19 Aug 1851 by James A. SNEAD, Minister of the Gospel. This couple appears in the 1860 census in Georgetown borough, Beaver, PA with children Viola and David, Jr. Another child, George Washignton HANEY was born about 1853 and died abt 1855 and is said to be buried in "Pennsylvania". I am guessing that this occurred in Georgetown, but not sure. Perhaps if I can find a local church I can find a record of baby George Washington HANEY. I would love to find where he is buried. In all these years he has never been forgotten, but we just don't know where he is. Capt. Haney was a steamboat pilot and Captain. At this time, in the 1850s, he may not have been a Captain yet. But in the 1860 census, his occupation is listed as SB Captain. Haney later went to St. Louis and ran his boats up to the headwaters of the Missouri and down to New Orleans. I have copies of some 1860s log books, memoirs and copies of a very few precious photos of Haney and his two children & one postcard of his stemboat the "Mollie Moore". Some of this was donated in the 1970s to the Durham Western Heritage Museum in Omaha, Nebraska and goes on display every now and then. I would be happy to share the info I have with anyone interested. Any suggestions as to a cemetery used in the 1850s in Georgetown or churches in the area would be most welcome. Thank you, Laura

    2. Cathy Raber
    3. I'm looking for the family. I'm only aware of the couple, but if there's children, great! Timeline is ends probably in the 1970's perhaps alitte after that. I'm guessing. Her name is Anna (Raber) not sure but think they were in Elwood City. Anna Reed lived in Elwood City in 1941, when her mother died, I know. Could anyone check into this for me? I've got nothing except sketchy info, & trying to get more to work on this line. Perhaps someone could answer whether The BCGS has most or all of the City Directories for the area, or whether they're elsewhere too? Is there anyone working on this line of REED's? I know Reed is a common ame in Beaver Co. Anyone working on this line? 1. Re: [PABEAVER] Samuel Flack 1760/1770 and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Smith
    2. Hi, You might check the tax records for that time period. Also, look for a deed or transfer of property. The Beaver County Genealogical Society can help you with both of these. Their website is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabecgs/contact.htm However, if they were in Little Beaver prior to 1800, information might be available in Allegheny County. 1. [PABEAVER] Jacob Green-PA
    2. Hi Cathy, I goofed on my first reply to you. Picked up an old group sheet from when I first started researching the Greens rather than a newer, corrected one. Jacob is the child of Isaac Green and Sarah Elizabeth Potts, not Nancy Goddard. His wife is the daughter of John Cowfer and Nancy Springer and Sarah is the sister of Alfred Green's wife Mary Elizabeth Cowfer. Some records will be found under the spelling of Coffer or Crawford. Sorry for the confusion. Modena Williams

    1. [PABEAVER] Cathy from Colorado query on Jacob Green of Beaver Co., PA
    2. Hi Cathy, I have some information on the family you're researching. My late husband's line comes down from Isaac's son Alfred Holland Green (by second wife, Sarah Elizabeth Potts). There are a lot of us researching this family and todate, none of us have been able to prove who Isaac's father was. Your Jacob was married Sarah Cowfer Noss, whom I believe was the sister to Alfred's wife, Mary Cowfer. Jacob's mother was Nancy Goddard (Isaac's first wife). I'll check my records and see what additional information I can provide. Modena Williams.

I was surprised that they had ships that sailed into Southern ports and California (as well as, New York, Baltimore, etc.) This is one of those really free no credit card promotions (not like a free trial). You just need to give them your name and email (and no credit card) and you can start searching the entire immigration collection. Here's a link to the promotion and more details.
