In a message dated 98-07-14 22:43:39 EDT, you write: <I am looking for David Ramsey. He was my gggrandfather.> Hi Doris. I just started working on my Ramsey line. I have a Robert Ramsey who was born about 1745 in Maryland and died in Hanover twp, Washington County, in 1825. He named a son David in his will as well as my ggg-grandfather, Mitchell, and a number of other children. I don't have any info on David other than that and that one of his brothers was the Reverend James Ramsey. I don't know if this David is your David, but I'll keep a look-out and let you know if I find anything else. Diane

Carol, Thank you so much for responding to my question. I am looking for David Ramsey. He was my gggrandfather. His son, my ggrandfather was George W. Ramsey, born in Hookstown in 1843. His death certificate states that his father was David Ramsey, mother unknown. I was hoping to find some trace of David Ramsey or some mention of the mother's name. Hi Folks, It has been a while since I made my query. So I thought I'd try again. I am searching for information on Simon and John BENNER from New Sewickley twp., Beaver Co. John was born c. 1805 and Simon was born 1808. I think they were born in Beaver Co. John married Sarah (?). Simon married Barbara KETTERER. Simon and John took their families to Scioto Co., OH c.1848. I am searching for information on their parents. I recently learned from records at St. Paul's in Zelienople (Butler Co.) their names: Johan BENNER and Maria BERINGER. No other information was given. Thanks, Beverly Benner Murphy Scioto Co., OH
In a message dated 98-07-12 13:55:03 EDT, you write: Nan, if i remember correctly , the Pine Grove Church used to stand across the road from the cemetery, and i believe it was maybe a Baptist church or maybe Methodist, but NOT Presbyterian. it was near Raccoon Creek, and i think i remember there being a few Turners, as well as a few other surnames, buried there. good luck, JoAnn. >> JoAnn Appreciate this information. It makes sense to me now, as my 3rd great grandfather is buried at Service Creek Cemetery which I understand is near or at Raccoon Creek. I wasn't aware of the close proximity. I'm actually looking for his daughter-in-law (my 2nd grgrandmother) MaryAnn (Green) Cain who d. ca 1818 or so. Family speculation is she might be buried at Pine Grove although I don't think she is listed in any index for Pine Grove (probably no stone). I wonder who might have records for the former Pine Grove Church? Would you or anyone on this list have any idea? Again thanks, Nan
Looking for any information on the descendants of Joseph Rouzer who moved to N. Sewickley Twp., probably around 1830. I have information on, what I believe, is his ancestors, but just trying to fill in missing information. Thanks in advance. -- Larry Thompson http://www.epix.net/~lt0168/index.html
I have reason to believe that my ancestors who moved to Washington County, OH from Beaver County, PA circa mid 1830s were Native Americans. The surnames were GODDARD and HACKATHORN. What tribes of Native Americans would have been in that area in the late 1700s to early 1800s? What resources are available to follow up on this lead? Sondra Hogue Taylor

Diane, I grew up in Carroll Co., Ohio and I have a book called "Biographical Record of Carroll Co., Ohio for 1891". The author's name was Beers. On page 892, there is a reference to a Conley. Here it is: J. S. Robbins was born in Lee Township, Carroll County, May 3, 1834. His father, John Robbins, and his grandfather, William Robbins, were natives of Maryland. William was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, also in the War of 1812. He reared a large family in Maryland, but, not contented with that country, he emigrated with his family to the West and located in the fertile country of Lee Township, Carroll Co., Ohio, and entered a farm where he and his wife died. John Robbins was a young man of twenty two when he came to Ohio; there he met and married Miss Crabbs, whose parents were old settlers and of English descent. Ten children were born to them - seven girls and 3 boys - named as follows: Elizabeth, Ann (deceased), William, Mary , Henry, Sarah, Isabel G. (died September 8, 1890), John, Rachel, and Eliza Jane (deceased). The the father died August 12, 1853, and the mother September 3, 1842, in Lee Township. Mr Robbins was a leading man of his time, and was looked to for counsel by his many friends. He was a soldier in the War of 1812. J.S. Robbins was reared on his father's farm and attended the district school. At the age of seventeen he began to teach, which vocation he followed for six years in Lee Township. At the age of twenty-three, August 26, 1856, he married Miss Sarah Jane Conley, who was born June 21, 1834. Her parents were natives of Pennsylvania, and were of English descent. After marriage Mr. Robbins moved to the West and bought a fram, but returned in 1859, and located in Jefferson County, Ohio; after remaining there twelve years he moved to his present farm in Carroll County. Four boys and two girls were born to him, viz.: Emery C., born June 8, 1858; Ross T., June 16, 1860; Patterson E., May 12, 1862; Frank S., September 25, 1868; Maggie J., June 29, 1867; Lora E., March 15, 1871. Mrs. Robbins died April 23, 1881, and April 6, 1882, Mr. Robbins married, for his second wife, Miss Maggie Wright, who was born August 21, 1843, her parents being of Irish descent. Two children habven been born to this union: John M., March 28, 1884 and Walter A., April 18, 1886. Mr. Robbins has a well imprioved farm of 220 acres, situated within the limits of Wattsville. He is a stock raiser and makes a speciality of sheep. Mr. Robins' success is attributed to hard work and good mamagement, and he has lived an upright, honest life. I hope this helps.
