    3. David Thanks for the information. Most of the information I have regarding the Beaver County connection I obtained from "The Family of Samuel Lyon, Bourbon County, Kentucky," Mrs. Arthur L. Mitchell and Lyon J. Hoard, National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. , pp. 17-25 and the will of Jacob Lyon. According to the article one Samuel Lyon came from England or Scotland to Philadelphia when there was but three cabins there. He had two or three children when he came. It is thought he went into Maryland and died there. All that is known of his family is that he had a son Samuel, born 1706-1707,who died 1807-08, at the age 101 years. Samuel II, referred to as the Centenarian was twice married and had eleven children by each wife. The name of his known wife was Susan. The family of Samuel Lyon the Centenarian moved to Redstone Blockhouse, Fayette County, Pa, about 1780. About 1795, Samuel, with sons Samuel, Jonathan, Jacob and Abraham moved to Georgetown, Beaver County, Pa. (located on the westward bend of the Ohio River near the Ohio state line0 where all but Jonathan remained. About 1800 Samuel Jr., (the pioneer) moved to Kentucky. Jacob died at 84, supposedly in Columbiana County, Ohio. However a will for one Jacob Lyon was proved and recorded on November 22, 1844 in the Office of the Register, Beaver County, PA. in Will Record B, pp 389, 390, 391 >From the information I have there doesn't appear to be a connection. However I'm saving the information you've provided. John Logue

    3. Jean Butler It is possible there is a connection. My information regarding the Lyon family of Beaver County was obtained from "The Family of Samuel Lyon, Bourbon County, Kentucky," by Mrs. Arthur L. Mitchell and Lyon J. According to the National Genralogical Society article, Samuel Lyon came from England or Scotland to Philadelphia when there was but three cabins there. He had two or three children when he came. It is thought he went into Maryland and died there. All that is known of his family is that he had a son Samuel, born 1706-1707,who died 1807-08, at the age 101 years. It may be the Jonathan, the son of Samuel could be an ancestor of yours. Do you have any dates for your Jonathan? Hope this information may be of use, I was informed that Ohio Township where my ancestors lived was a part of Allegheny County. I may have to research there also. John E. Logue

    1. [PABEAVER-L] McKeesport Heritage Center - go there!
    2. Anthony Coyan
    3. I just returned from a 3-day trip to Allegheny Co. to do yet more research in that area on my ancestors. My previous 5 trips these last few months were confined to the courthouses and libraries in Allegheny, Washington, and Beaver Counties. However, this time, since I have an ancestor who lived and raised a family in McKeesport in the 1850-1890 era, I thought that I should "check out" the McKeesport Heritage Center first and then go on to the courthouses from there. Well I NEVER MADE IT to the courthouses! At first I grumbled to myself over the $25 yearly membership, wondering if someone is just trying to get rich.....I'm now ashamed of myself for having those thoughts. I spent all 3 days there, from 9 til 5, just trying to go through the material that I felt may give me some good leads. I still didn't get thru all of what they have available. I came away with so much material, it will take me a WEEK just to digest it all. So if you have ancestors from not just McKeesport, but Allegheny Co. in general, you need to seriously consider them. The ladies there are extremely helpful and PASSIONATE about the service they are providing for us! The membership fee merely helps to allow them to keep the doors open, since they aren't subsidized with grants, endowments, or state funds. Anthony Coyan Jackson, Ohio

[Snip] John and Listmembers, The curious thing here is that Ohio Township, in a current day atlas, is in Allegheny County. I sometime ago noted that Ohio and Moon Townships (maybe others) were listed with Beaver county in the 1850 census. I don't know the answer to this curiosity. Maybe someone can shed some light on this. Phil Holm

    2. John E. Logue
    3. Hi I am researching the Samuel Lyon family of Ohio Township, Beeaver County. Samuel was in the 1850 census. The census indicates he was born in Pennsylvania in about 1800. As there was no record of him in the 1860 census, I believe he died some time between 1850 and 1860. The census shows Samuel and wife Catherine (b. 1805) with the following children: Mary b. 1825; Sarah b. 1828; John (my ancestor) b. 1832; Susan b. 1833; Austin b. 1835; Samuel b. 1837; Isaac b. 1841; Elizabeth b. 1843; and Matilda b. 1848. I believe that he may be buried in a cemetery in Ohio Township. Does any one have any information regarding Ohio Township cemeteries? Or better yet any information about Samuel Lyon? Thanks for any assistance. John Logue

Does anyone have any knowledge of sources available for this? My family was Roman Catholic and some of the children married at St. Joseph's RC Church in Beaver Falls???? I have called the area churches, but have not had much success or encouragement on availability of sexton records. I am searching for a grave of my 2nd great grandfather, Sylvester Thomas CONNOLLY who died 10 Nov 1892. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sherri Dysart
