    3. Dear Susan Hello from a Mann girl (My maiden name)Grew up in Baden, Beaver Co. >From "Western Pennsylvania Historical Magazine, Vol. 65, 1982" which I believe I found in the U. of Central Florida library in Orlando, there is the following: "Reconstructing Crawford's Army of 1782" by Parker B. Brown Page 29 Thomas Rankin's company: The Rose Journal shows thirty men, the Pennsylvania Archives thirty-eight, and the Militia Loan Twenty-five. In this instance, the Pennsylvania Archives total appears the more accurate, judging from Daniel Hamilton's pension declaration: "I raised a party of volunteers to join Crawfords campaign and marche with them to Mingo bottom where we joined Captain Thomas Rankin...had about twenty men --Then together with my party, consisting of nineteen men (of)which Captain Rankin was elected Captain, I chosed (sic) Lieutenant, and Hugh Forbes Ensign..." There is a lot more, and of course I didn't xerox it all. I was looking for stuff about my own ancestor, William Nemons/Nemmins, who was shot and scalped near Coshocton on the retreat from Sandusdey. There is also a really good book called "That Dark and Bloody River" by Eckerd. I recommend it highly for anyone looking for info on forts, battles, etc. with the Indians at that period in history. Hope this helps. Marcia Mann Duggins in Florida

    3. Hi judie, Alfred Whisler, a dentist in Beaver County (born 1839) married Mary E. Marquis (daughter of Dr. Marquis and Emeline S. and born 1852 in Rochester, PA). I will look thru my notes but I believe I originally found some info on her on the internet in DAR files. More was written about her and her family in "History of Beaver County, 1888". Do you think she might be linked to yours? Dr. Marquis' father was David Marquis and a Joseph was listed as children. I can send you what a nice lady typed up about them from the book if you like. 2. I'm sorry but I can not look up names on the 1850 census of Beaver Co. with just last names. Sometimes there as high as 8 or ten pages with a given name. However, anyone who asks for a family with a first name attached I will gladly look these up. Jean

    2. Susan: I just rented a book HISTORY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY {Pa}, by Alfred > Creigh, LL.D. printed 1870--& it contains an account of the Indian campaign you mention, plus other Rankin/Crawford references. (Maybe Lowery too, I wasn't looking for that name, so didn't notice.) I no longer have the book, but perhaps you can locate it somewhere. And I believe Washington County is the place you want to be searching. rondie >William LOWREY/LOWRY [born 1760] moved from Chester Co. to Beaver Co. some >time before 1782. He served in Capt. 3. Susan, See Chapter XXVI entitled "Crawford's Expedition to Sandusky" pages 131 to 135 in George Dallas Albert's "History of the County of Westmoreland Pennsylvania with biographical sketches of many of it Pioneers and Prominent Men" Philadelphia: L.H.Everts & Co. 1882. In quickly looking through the chapter it mentions Crawford and Williamson no Rankin. 3. Terri, My understanding is that naturalization records are kept at the Federal Courthouses, I am not sure where or if there is one close to Beaver County. You might ask at the Carnegie Library. I know there is one in Erie, Erie County, PA. Good Luck!
