    1. [PABEAVER-L] Isaiah Murray-River boatman
    2. Joyce Wilson
    3. Your postings about boatmen and boat builders has prompted me to ask if anyone is researching a Civil War veteran, Isaiah Murray. He was 41 years of age when he enlisted and was employed prior to enlistment as a boatman (riverboat pilot). I also found a Josiah Murray on the 1850 census listed as a boatman, who could possibly be a brother. Isaiah Murray is buried in a Rochester, PA cemetery. He was married to Sarah S. Smith in 1838 in Beaver County. Joyce Wilson jwilson@cybertrails.com Searching for: ADAMS, BRADY, DRUMMOND, DUGGINS, FINLEY, FOOTE, HUGHES, HUNT, LONDON, McCOY, McQUILLIN, MORTENSON, PERRY, ROMINE. 1. [PABEAVER-L] Revolutionary War payment receipts
    2. Anthony Coyan
    3. Today I was looking through a coin collectors weekly pulication (Numismatic News) and I saw this ad by a COIN dealer that makes me wish the RIGHTFUL owners knew about.... "Revolutionary War military payment receipts, state of Connecticut, signed and dated 1789. Preserved in flawless condition. These are 200+ year old receipts of interest paid to Minutemen on wages still due from the Revolutionary War. What a fantastic piece of early Americana at an incredibly low price! " These receipts were priced at $39.95 but to the living descendants of these soldiers, they would be PRICELESS.So sad to see a coin dealer peddling items such as this. The coin dealer probably thinks that a GENEOLOGIST is someone who works for some bio-tech company... Anthony in Ohio

    2. Brian Bowers
    3. Hello, My ancestor Sampson Piersol claimed a Revolutionary War pension because of his service "under Captain Joseph Sipeney in a Company of Indian Spies" during 1781 and 1782. (He also served in Col. Crawford's ill-fated expendition against the Indians in Sandusky but I'm very familiar with that.) Does anyone know exactly what an Indian spy was and they did? 1. [PABEAVER-L] Georgetown Blockhouse and Smith's Ferry
    2. Found some info on Georgetown in "A Guidebook to Historic Western Pennsylvania" Beaver County p. 73 Georgetown - a very old river town. Georgetown Blockhouse (weatherboard log) was built in 1796 by Benoni Dawson and until 1900 had 2 stories. John Bever, an immigrant from Ireland who built the first papermill in Ohio, purchased and enlarged this house about 1800 and had a tavern and store there. George Henry Loskiel, an early Moravian traveler, visited there in 1803. On Water Street, overlooking Ohio River, near Old River Hotel. Also listed are the Old River Hotel with mention of Thomas Foster and Samuel Lyon, the Poe House with mention of Thomas Poe, a raftsman and st. Luke's Protestant Episcopal Church, founded in 1800. Glasgow is mentioned in connection with the Sandy and Beaver Canal Lock No. 54. If you want any further information, just contact me at cvsmith1@aol.com.
