Her family lived in Beaver County PA when she was young. They had children Eliza Jane LESLIE, William LESLIE, Susannah LESLIE, Margaret LESLIE, and Mary Jane LESLIE. Mary Jane married Uriah APPLEGATE. They had children Leslie APPLEGATE, Uriah Sampson APPLEGATE, Calvin APPLEGATE, Hall APPLEGATE, James APPLEGATE, Hugh APPLEGATE, Frank APPLEGATE, and Mary APPLEGATE. Mary APPLEGATE had a daughter June NELSON. The 1850 census shows a Uriah APPLEGATE living in Liberty Twp, Trumbull County, Ohio. John LESLIE had a sister Jane who married Hugh Campbell. Jane died 11 Nov 1892. Most of this information is from family records written in 1893 by Polly McFARLAND's niece, Mary Jane McFARLAND TROY. Also am in possession of many letters written from Beaver Co., to my gggrandmother, Eliza Townsend GAMMEL, between 1851 and 1891. In these letters it often mentions friends and neighbors. Some of the names mentioned include; McCONNEL, JONES, MORLAN, WALKER, WALLAS, HAMOND, BACOM (spelling?), HARDINGS, SQUIRES. McCLURE, ERWIN (many references, may be a collateral family), McCALESTER, MEANS, THOMAS, TALBOT, BANCROFT, HOOPES, CALDWELL, McCLARY and others. Will share if you have connections to these families. 1. [PABEAVER-L] HECKATHORN, GEORGE/Green Twp., Beaver Co./1846
    2. I recently received a packet of info from the Beaver County Research Center Carnegie Library concerning the Heckendorn/Heckathorn/Hackathorn family. Based on several other researchers theories, I believed that my ggg- grandmother Susan/Susannah Goddard's maiden name was Hackathorn. This packet included copies of info from "The Heckathorn Family," by Ann C. Sherwin. However, I could find no info on my Susan Goddard in it. I then discovered two folded, legal-size pages that were copies of a will that was still in the envelope. This was a copy of the Last Will and Testament of George Heckathorn "being far advanced in years and of Green Township, Beaver County, PA" dated 26 March 1838. This will had been filed with the Registrar of the Probate Wills on 23 August 1846. It listed his heirs as his daughters Barbary Othican? (surname hard to read), Polly Heckathorn, Betsey Miller, Susan Goddard and sons George Heckathorn, John Hackathorn, Peter Heckathorn and Charles Heckathorn. He named James Moody as the executor. There was no mention of his wife. My Susan Goddard was indeed his daughter and I had theorized that she had moved to Ohio sometime between 1845 and 1850, probably after her father died. Does anyone have this George Heckathorn or any of his children included in a database? George probably would have been born around 1760 to 1782. Susan Goddard was born circa 1800. Or, does anyone recognize any of the collateral names in this group? Also, would the Beaver Co. Probate Court have further records on this will? Thanks, Sondra Hogue Taylor

    1. [PABEAVER-L] DEVER/DEAVER, CONLEY 1800s
    2. For a long time, I've suspected that many of my Carroll County, Ohio ancestors came from Washington and Beaver Counties, PA. Recently, I was able to make the connection from my ggg-grandmother, Ann, wife of Samuel CONLEY of Carroll County, OH to her father in Hanover township, Beaver County. The will of John DEVER/DEAVER mentions his daughter Ann Conley. I've located John in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 Beaver County censuses. He and his wife Elizabeth SHAFER are also mentioned in Warner as the parents of Elizabeth TORRANCE (also mentioned in John's will). The following other children are named in John's will: Isaac, David, William, John Jr., and Sarah SPEARS. According to a bio on John's grandson, William, located in another source, "History of the Pan-Handle", John and Elizabeth were born in Germany and lived in Maryland when they first came to the US late in the 18th century. John served in the War of 1812. Sometime before 1820, the family moved to Hanover township in Beaver County. John died before September 4, 1849. It would make sense that John Dever's daughter, Ann, would have married someone from close to home. The Beaver County censuses show several CONLEY families living near the Devers. Based on my Samuel Conley's age at death, he would have been born about 1805. I've narrowed down the Conleys with children of that age in the census and have come up with two possibles, John Conley or Nicholas Conley (also spelled Conly). Ann and Samuel married around 1830 and Samuel bought land in Ohio in 1832. Is anyone else working on any of these names? I'd love to know more about these branches of my family and find parents for my ggg-grandfather, Samuel Conley. Diane
