    3. Hi Brian: I think you're mistaken. The section of current Beaver County south of the Ohio was part of Westmoreland in 1780, as the map clearly indicates. 3. I could find no record of what you sought in your query about Beaver Co. and Westmoreland Co. I suggest that you read 'Ancestry's issue of RED BOOK. It contains references to read about Maps and Land Records and basically how the state developed. It does not show Beaver Co. as being at one time a part of Westmoreland . Hope this helps. 2. Beaver County was erected out of Washington and Allegheny counties on March 12, 1800. It decreased in size when Lawrence county was formed in 1849. Source - A Guidebook to Historic Western Pennsylvania.

    3. Clif, My "problem" this time regards the Hartzel family. I have a will that mentions land "in Westmoreland County"; however, the son turns up in Franklin Township, Beaver County. It appears that Franklin and North Sewickley and Marion townships were above the Westmoreland line. The will is important because I don't have what I consider a conclusive link between the Montgomery and the Beaver county people. I'm still not turning up much new. I found some interesting information on my Nye line (into which the Peirsols married). I'm been running that down the last few weeks. I tried to go to my local library's genealogy room. I now live in Fairfax, Va. I figured that it should have something on Hampshire County. However, it was Monday - President's Day - and it was closed. I don't know when I'll have a chance to get there again. It's only three miles away but my time is so tight right now. I'll keep you updated. I still plan to make a thorough search of the western Pa. records this spring and summer. I'll keep you updated on that, too. 3. Thanks. The 1780 map of Penna. counties: http://users.penn.com/~tshu/pa1780.html Makes it appear that Beaver County never was considered part of Westmoreland County. Of course it's still possible that my ancestor was confused and just figured that anything west of Harrisburg was Westmoreland County. Quite a few of my ancestors seem to have been "confused." 1. [PABEAVER-L] roll call: NYE PIERSOL GERWIG HARTZEL et al.
    2. Brian Bowers
    3. Hello, This list has been very helpful already but I'm still going to jump onto the roll call bandwagon. (I think it's a great idea to have one very so often.) My lines and the times they arrived in Beaver County: NYE: Andrew, Michael, Sampson, Michael P. Starting in late 1700s. PIERSOL: Sampson, Jacob. Staring in late 1700s. HARTZEL: George and George. Starting c. 1830. GERWIG/GARWICK: Jacob and Jacob. Starting in mid-1800s. ERB: Sarah, probably daugher of George. Married Jacob Gerwig. STAMM: John. Starting in early 1800s. LESNETT: Christopher and Dell. Starting in late 1800s. POTTER: William. Immigrated from England in 1820s. MOYER: Samuel, Abraham and Louis. (Primarily in Butler County, though.) Starting in early 1800s. I have quite a bit of information on some of these families and tidbits on others. I'm always happy to share (although it might take me some time to get around to it.)
