Looking for information on any Antes os Stamm families that came from this area.
Guess what Beaverites? James P Campbell enlisted from Illinois. For my "Be Kind to Genealogists" bit I will do limited lookups on a Civil War site I have subscribed to. Just don't ask me to look up " John Smith, I think he was from NY", OK? Barbara Jameson Mark and Meredith's Nana
The name Conkle (referring to David Conkle) does not appear in either the mother (her maiden name was Neely) or on the father's side. I wish it were that simple Jean
I think you will find that the information you are looking for (port of arrival, name of ship, personal discription, marriage, children, etc.) is only available for later naturalizations, and by that I mean the 1900s.
I have some listed in the census with a middle name also...they were all the children of the parents..it could be that that was what they were just called...instead of one name to holler they had 2 . It was usually the maiden name of the mother that was the second name... In 1850 and 1860 there was a girl by the name of Nancy Morgan who lived with the John and Elizabeth Neely Wright family in Georgetown. Does anyone have any clues to her origins? Also John & Elizabeth had a son? David Conkle in their family, born 30 Nov. 1833. He later took the name of Wright. What's odd is, he fits right into the age group of the children, but his name must have been Conkle, as he was the only child with a second name. By this I mean none of the other had a middle name listed so why would he? Any information would be appreciated and I will share information. Thanks Jean

Craig, you asked; . <<<I am trying to track down the location of the Ponderosa Golf Course.>>> Ponderosa Golf Course is located on Route 168 just on the north side of Frankfort Springs. Depending where you are coming from, you can get to Frankfort Springs on Route 18 South or Route 30 West to Route 168 South at Hookstown. From Beaver it takes about 35 minutes to get there. I don't know about online maps, but the Carnegie library at Beaver Falls has maps of Beaver Co in the late 1700's-early 1800's. I have copies of one and I found J. Jenkens with 60 acres of land right near the border. This section of the library is only open at certain times, but you can call and ask for the schedule for the historical section. Hope this helps. Thanks so much, Jean, this is just what I was looking for. It makes these men and their history just a little more real to life than just reading a dry war report. If I get them all put together, I will send you a copy. Anyone else that has such a wonderful family story, I would appreciate their sharing it. Joyce at joyce@cobweb.net
Hello everyone, I recently received the Social Security Application for my ggrandfather and finally got the names of his parents: Elzado WOOD and Kathrine WILLIARD Does anyone know anything about either of these names? The application says they had William I. Wood on December 1, 1869. That would be all I know of them. I do not know if they had any other children. My information on my ggrandfather, William, starts in 1890 when he marries and is living in New Brighton. He lives there until about 1912, then moves to Haydenville, Ohio. Then moves to Kittanning, PA sometime about 1925. My grandfather, William's son, lived in Columbus. I heard they used to make trips to New Brighton for family reunions, but no one alive can give me a name to connect with other Wood families living there. I have a lot of information to share after 1890, but nothing before. Any help would be appreciated. (I would have thought Elzado would be a strange enough name to stand out, but so far, I have been unable to find anyone with that name.) thanx Woody
I live in Hanover township, right on the edge of Washington/Beaver Co. Used to live in Washington Co. Joyce joyce@cobweb.net
I have the regimental history for the 17th PA and I found your ggrandfather's name in it. My husband and I belong to a civil war group N-SSA, and we are part of the team that portrays the 17th PA Vol Cav. I have a lot of the basic information on them, including the history and a few papers I got from Carlisle and a few articles from newspapers from the times. What I am really interested in is their family life and what happened to them before and after the war. I talked to a relative of Arthur White's who remembered him. I want to put all the little family items into a pamphlet for the other "members" of the 17th PA Vol Cav. We meet in VA once a month during the summer and participate in shooting events with other units of the civil war. This means wearing the uniform and using the weapons of the time period. It is a lot of fun. Some of the other units (from Michigan to Georgia) have interesting items about their units and that's what I am looking for in the 17th. Any help in this would be appreciated. Thanks Joyce joyce@cobweb.net
Hi, I was reading a tombstone in Beaver Cemetery that may or may not be an ancestor of mine. When I checked at the cemetery office, the records stated this person (Wisman) was from Belowsville. I had never heard of that. Does anyone know of a Wisman from Belowsville?
