    2. Robert McLain served in the Rev War (Company 7, First Battalion of Cumberland Co.) Lived in Westmoreland Co., may have farmed on Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh. Daughter Jane b. 1775 married Daniel Shehy/Sheehy the first settler of Youngstown, Ohio. Jane probably had at least 2 sisters and a brother. Her father reported to have drowned while transporting goods on the Beaver River. Would like to make connection with anyone recognizing this family. Ed Krimmer, eckrimmer@cs.com

    1. Marquis Mc Clane and family
    2. I have hit a brick wall in researching this MC CLANE branch of my family tree. Ggg grandfather Marquis (or Marcus or Mark) MC CLANE, born circa 1808, died 1879, married Agnes/Nancy WILSON prior to 1830. Children: Rebecca (born circa. 1831) Robert (1838) Henrietta (1842) James (1843) Sarah 1846 Ira Martin (my gg grandfather, born 12 Mar 1848, New Sewickly Twp. Beaver County PA, died 11 Jun 1936 in Beaver Falls, PA) Nancy 1850. PA censuses show the family living in Wayne Township, Lawrence County and New Sewickly Township, Beaver County. There are all kinds of variations in surname spelling in the censuses as well - McLean, McLain, McClaine, Maclen, and Macklin - to name just a few. My family apparently adopted the MC CLANE spelling sometime during Marquis's lifetime. I think Marquis’s parents may have been John and Rachel McClane and that Agnes/Nancy’s parents may have been Andrew and Rebecca WILSON - by the proximity of gravestones. And I'm assuming MARQUIS is a family name since my grandfather Frank Wilson MC CLANE bore the WILSON moniker. Has anyone out there encountered this family or can anyone give me any leads? I’m getting back into genealogy after a fifteen year hiatus. And I’m a really new hand at computers and the Internet. Any help will be appreciated. Karen Booth Millsboro DE

    1. Re: [PABEAVER-L] 1840 Will of JOSEPH JENKINS of Hanover Twp.
    2. I thought I would share the Will of a Beaver County ancestor, a copy of which was received from the Register of Wills, Beaver County, in order to help anyone looking for or researching any of the names appearing in the Will and to encourage others to post their ancestors' Beaver County wills. I belong to another list which has done this, resulting in the posting of about 60 odd wills. "LAST WILL of Joseph Jenkins, registered April 17th, 1840 recorded in Will Book Vol. B, pages 225-226 Beaver County, Pa., Register of Wills IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I, Joseph Jenkins of Hanover Township and Beaver County and State of Pennsylvania being weak in body but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body do make and constitute this my last will and testament in a manner and form following that is to say, I recommend my body to the earth to be burried [sic] in a decent and christian like manner after my decease, and my soul to Almighty God who gave it and as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to give me in this world I give and bequeath in manner and form following. I give and bequeath to my first wifes’ eight children - John Jenkins, William Jenkins, David Jenkins, Madison Jenkins, Joseph Jenkins, three daughters Elizabeth CELLY, Mary WILKINS, and as Permely SMITH is now dead I will and bequeath to her children what might be her dividend equal with the other of that tract of land including the mill the road passing by the mill leading to Thomas WILCOXENs to be a boundary line, thence North from Thomas WILCOXENs line along the state line to Joseph GIBSONs corner thence round to the beginning. My other two plantations the one where William MCCAUSLAND now lives and the other bounded by the state line and the creek, I will and bequeath to my present wife and her six children, Hooper Jenkins, Jackson Jenkins, Reed Jenkins, Sarah Jenkins, Milton Jenkins, Rebecca Jenkins. But as to my wife only on conditions that if she lives a prudent and virtuous life and does not marry, but if she marries and brings a man on my property and misuses my children, it is my will and I do order that she do not get any thing more than what the laws of Pennsylvania will allow her. It is my will and I do order my executors hereinafter named to pay my funeral and other expenses as soon after my decease as can be conveniently done and to collect all money due to me and to pay all lawful demands against my estate. It is my will and I do order that if my present wife or her children do pay all expenses and debts against my estate that all my personal property shall be theirs: Viz: Horses, Cattle, sheep, hogs, household furniture and all and every kind of grain and all farming utensils, whatever, but more particularly it is my will that my household furniture shall be my present wife’s right to possess and have. And lastly I nominate and appoint my trusty friends as executors of this my last will and testament, disen__lling to be my last will. The executors hereby me nominated and appointed is John Jenkins of Wellsville Ohio and Robert RAMSEY, Beaver County Pennsylvania. Sealed signed pronounced and delivered by me this fifth day of February eighteen hundred and forty. Joseph Jenkins (SEAL) Signed in presence of us and at his request, We sign our names as witnesses. William MCCAUSLAND. William MELVIN, Jr. BEAVER COUNTY SS: be it remembered that on the 17 day of April A.D. 1840 Before me Thompson M. JOHNSON Register for the probate of Wills etc. In and for said county personally came William McCausland and William Melvin, Jr. Who being duly sworn did depose and say that they were present and saw and heard Joseph Jenkins the testator within named sign, seal and pronounce and declare the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his last will and testament and that at the time of so doing he was of sound mind, memory and understanding to the best of these deponents knowledge observation and belief. T.M. Johnson Register April 17 1840 letters testamentary granted to John Jenkins and Robert Ramsey." JOSEPH JENKINS lived in the southwestern corner of Hanover Twp. near the Washington County line and the West Virginia border in the late 1700s up to 1840. His son JOHN [M.] JENKINS, mentioned in the Will, is my direct line ancestor. I am trying to track JOSEPH'S other progeny as well. Excepting his son JOHN, the disposition of his children by his first wife [SARAH DUNGAN] is a mystery to me. I also only know the first name of his 2nd wife -- Jane. -- Craig Heberton
