Would anyone out there with access to Warner's History of Beaver County, PA and/or Jordan's Genealogical and Personal History of Beaver County, PA verify some facts for me about John KELSO who operated a mill in the Wallace's Run area. I have the following in my notes (which I am working on after a fifteen year absense!): Born in 1761 in Ireland to Samuel and Susan KELSO. Emigrated as a child in 1767 to America through Charleston, South Carolina. Came to Beaver County around 1801 via New Jersey. Left Beaver County circa 1810 for Kentucky. Is any of this in either Warner's or Jordan's. I neglected to note exactly where I found the above information. His daughter, Elizabeth Kelso married John WHITE, another early settler and my gggg grandfather. That part I have verified. Thanks for your help ... it is much appreciated. Karen Booth Millsboro, DE
Looking for information on Samuel Clark and also the area where he died. Below is a paragraph I received from a message. SAMUEL CLARK born abt. 1738 probably in Hagerstown, Maryland died abt. 1784 Raccoon River Washington Co. Pa. (or is it possble this is Beaver Co. Pa.?) He married Elanore (Nellie) Violette. She was the widow of John Lyttleton. Need information on this family. Have found nothing on Sam and Nellie for some 10 years now. Would appreciate any help. Thanks Mike Re Raccoon Creek/River: you may already know that it is in the northern part of Washington County, PA. See towns of Burgettstown and Midway. Land records show deed transfers by Richard and Hannah Vaughn, Hannah's Wilson relatives, and Abraham Vaughn (in his will) in Smith, Robinson, Hanover Townships in this area. Abraham Vaughn left property to his daughter Hannah Comley on Harmon's Run, another creek there. This should be a fertile area for Clark descendants to explore, since it appears that Samuel Clark died there.

Enjo Bev...Ohio INDUSTRY COURTESY OF BEAVER COUNTY BICENTENNIAL ATLAS The Borough of Industry, incorporated in 1960, was formed from Industry Township and included Ohioview, Merrill, and Industry villages and adjacent farmlands. The community's history might be considered to go back to 1817, when the construction of a road from Beaver to the Little Beaver Bridge was approved. Seven years later, the United Brethren in Christ Church was established with the Reverend Henry Purdy as pastor. The area grew as means of transportation improved. The year, 1833 saw the establishment of a post office and on September 14, 1936. William McCallister laid out the village of Industry. The region at this time was still largely agricultural, with some mining and lumbering being carried on as well. Due to the proximity of the Ohio River to the Village, some Industry residents also made their living servicing the boats which passed their way on the river. (Industry was a safe place where boats could tie up at night.) By 1846, a number of steamboats with names like "Pekin", "Mingo Chief", "Palo Alto", and "Financier" had been built in the boatyards there. An unsuccessful attempt in 1853 by "the inhabitants of Industry district, laboring under great inconvenience for want of a township," to have the area awarded township status was followed by a successful 1855 petition. The latter resulted in the erection of Industry Township in February 7,1856, from parts of Ohio and Brighten Township. Industry gained additional importance that year with the construction of the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Railroad and the building of a railroad station there. In 1876 , Caldwell's Atlas listed among Industry's merchants J. W. Engl. and Son, boatbuilders, O. E. Abed, "dealer in dry goods," and James Harsha, "General Dealer in agricultural implements, also sewing machines, pianos, organs..." During the latter part of the nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth, a number of oil wells were sunk in the township; however, the oil business proved unprofitable there. The street car came to Industry in 1908 with the construction of the Ohio River Scenic Route of the Steubenville, East Liverpool and Beaver Valley Interurban Railroad. The present road through Industry (Route 68) was paved in 1925. At about the same time, a general; breakup of the surrounding farmland began, and the area began to take on its present residential character. Since 1958, Industry has been part of the Western Beaver County School District.
Hello to everyone, Please help me with my Beaver Co. geography because I live here and have most of my life and I am confussed. Where is Ohio Twp. now? I am looking in the phone book under Government Offices- City, Borough and Tpwnship. There is a Ohio Twp. listed as well as a Ohioville Borough and an Industry Boro. So I know they are three different places. Industry, PA is alive and well today. I know that because I live close and my husband was born and raised there. We owned a house there until about 2 years ago and it is not Ohio Twp. So where is Ohio Twp. today? I looked at the map referenced in another post and could not find it. Could it be located in a sister county? Judee
In the 1850 census, the first number is the Dwelling number and the second is the Family number. Genrecords.com has replicas of the forms so you can fill in what you find. Debbie

Deanna, Industry, PA is along the Ohio River between Beaver and Midland if you have a map to look at. It is just a few miles from the PA and Ohio state lines. Judee

Oops, I'm not quite into this electronic age--See Map that Ed McClelland has posted maps at <http://amug.org/~impactvr/beavermp/> Ohio Township is named Ohioville on that page and I think what is named Midland at one time was Industry Borough. And pictures are worth a thousand words. Phil Holm
Deanna, Although I don't know, I would venture that Ohio Township in Beaver County is now Ohioville which surrounds Midland and touches the north end of Industry. In Allegheny County in 1850 Ohio Township was much larger than today and included Aleppo Township, Glenfield, Haysville, Osborne and Sewickley, the post office was Sewickleyville. Mac

I received information from an 1850 census that shows my family in the "Ohio Twp" in Beaver County. I can't find it on the twp map. Where would it be? Also, several other questions: (Here is the listing) Ohio Township census pg. 150 188 189 George W. Engle 34, Ship Carpenter, $800 property value, PA etc. etc. What is the 188 and 189 reference numbers? What constitutes property value that would be shown on that census? If anyone from Beaver would happen to come across Henry Purdy b. Westchester Co. NY would like to hear from you. The Bevingtons, if I remember right are somehow related to the Purdys. Will get back to you this evening. Have been trying to place Henry in Pa. for a good while. Willing to share info. Bev
Deana, Here is another aricle that has me stumped on my realive Rev. Henry Purdy. I cannot find him om the census. I do not know what those numbers mean, but thought you would like this article, he is mentioned here also. There is nothing left in Industrly, it is between Beaver and Beaver Falls. The United Brethren In Christ Church of Industry Billage, Beaver Co. Pa. was organized in 1824 by Rev. Henry Purdy with the following charter members.: Mr. and Mrs Biddle, Mr and Mrs. George Engle, Mr. and Mrs John Chamberlain and Mrs. John Cotton.. Two church-buildings have been erected, cost unknown; one in 1849 and one in 1898. Industry was formerly connected with the Muskingum Conference (Ohio). Among the ministers of this conference who have at varios times served the church here were the following: A. Biddle, John McGaw, Jos Paxson, E. Sluts, A. Brazee, John Todd, John Swihart, William Turner, __Legget, George Fast, M. L. Spangler and William Neville. The class is now in Allegheny Conference. They have labored effectively in various fiels in Ohio and Indiana. SOURCE: The Heritage Collection, History and Biography of Beaver Co.. Vol. 2. Good Hunting, Bev...........Ohio

Darn, that makes me tiffed.I know that my memory just couldn't be that bad. yeah, yeah, funny girl. I do wish that I had enjoyed history and geography when I was in school.
