Rochester *WAS* a big glass area. Used to be Rochester Tumbler Co or ("Fry Glass" as called by locals) owned by Henry C. Fry. It was built in 1873. Used to be dozens of glass factories in the area, now only Phoenix Glass in Monaca remains. (Anchor Hocking) They used to have glass kilns in N. Rochester. If you want more data, I have a book on Rochester itself. Will lookup. What I have here, is a smidgen from the Beaver Co. Album by Arnold B. McMahon and Denver L. Walton. amie ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 11:34 AM Subject: [PABEAVER-L] Re: Albert Myers Rochester seems to be a big glass works area. 1880 Census Place: Rochester, Beaver, Pennsylvania Source: FHL Film 1255097 National Archives Film T9-1097 Page 426D Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Hugh MCMYERS Self M M W 41 PA Occ: Works In Glass House Fa: PA Mo: PA Jane MCMYERS Wife F M W 39 PA Occ: Keeps House Fa: PA Mo: PA Albert MCMYERS Son M S W 12 PA Occ: Works In Glass House Fa: --- Mo: PA Mary MCMYERS Dau F S W 11 PA Occ: At Home Fa: --- Mo: PA Margaret MCMYERS Dau F S W 9 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Harry Fry MCMYERS Son M S W 6 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Samuel Cain MCMYERS Son M S W 2 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Charles MCMYERS Son M S W 2M PA Fa: PA Mo: PA ------------------------------------------------------------------ Census Place: North Sewickley, Beaver, Pennsylvania Source: FHL Film 1255097 National Archives Film T9-1097 Page 327B Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Samuel STEEL Self M M W 37 PA Occ: Farmer Fa: PA Mo: PA Margaret STEEL Wife F M W 27 PA Occ: Keeping House Fa: NJ Mo: IRELAND Nancy STEEL Dau F S W 10 PA Occ: At School Fa: PA Mo: PA William STEEL Son M S W 9 PA Occ: At School Fa: PA Mo: PA Emma STEEL Dau F S W 3 PA Fa: PA Mo: PA Minnie E. I am looking for Elizabeth Mariah Martin, b. around 1857-58 in Butler County, PA, daughter of William H. Martin and Eliza Schlagel Martin. She married a man named Miller. According to her sister's 1930 obituary, Elizabeth lived in Beaver Falls. I found Elizabeth in the 1920 census living at 619 9th Street with her husband (whose name can not be read, unfortunately). I haven't been able to locate the couple in the 1910 or 1930 censuses. Any information on Elizabeth and her family would be greatly appreciated. I have lots of info on descendants of her brother, Charles F. Martin and the ancestors of both Elizabeth and Charles. Thanks, Shaun
I'm looking for a marriage between Amelia Parsons Hurst and John Blake. They married in Bridgewater in Feb. 1855, or at least that's what oral family history says. I would appreciate any information which could confirm that. Jean Hurst

Hi All, Sorry for the cross posting, but I wanted to make sure all the McCreary researchers that might benefit from these listings saw it. I do not have an index for 1870. I did this for someone who wrote me that they knew she (Margaret) was in Hickory, so I scanned it for her. Please do not ask me for a lookup, UNLESS you know the township for me to scan. I have started an index for New Castle that is posted on the Lawrence Page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~palawren/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~palawren/census/1870/01-census1870_main.htm I am up to page 122. The glass works in Monaca was called Phoenix Glass. There was a big fire there sometime in the 1970's. I think after they rebuilt it became Anchor Hocking. -----Original Message----- From: Robert Reese [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 1:32 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [PABEAVER-L] Re: Albert Myers I think the glass works was across the Ohio River in Phillipsburg which is now known as Monaca. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 8:34 AM Subject: [PABEAVER-L] Re: Albert Myers > Rochester seems to be a big glass works area. > > > 1880 > Census Place: Rochester, Beaver, Pennsylvania > Source: FHL Film 1255097 National Archives Film T9-1097 Page 426D > > Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace > Hugh MCMYERS Self M M W 41 PA > Occ: Works In Glass House Fa: PA Mo: PA > Jane MCMYERS Wife F M W 39 PA > Occ: Keeps House Fa: PA Mo: PA > Albert MCMYERS Son M S W 12 PA > Occ: Works In Glass House Fa: --- Mo: PA > Mary MCMYERS Dau F S W 11 PA > Occ: At Home Fa: --- Mo: PA > Margaret MCMYERS Dau F S W 9 PA > Fa: PA Mo: PA > Harry Fry MCMYERS Son M S W 6 PA > Fa: PA Mo: PA > Samuel Cain MCMYERS Son M S W 2 PA > Fa: PA Mo: PA > Charles MCMYERS Son M S W 2M PA > Fa: PA Mo: PA > ------------------------------------------------------------------ > Census Place: North Sewickley, Beaver, Pennsylvania > Source: FHL Film 1255097 National Archives Film T9-1097 Page 327B > > Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace > Samuel STEEL Self M M W 37 PA > Occ: Farmer Fa: PA Mo: PA > Margaret STEEL Wife F M W 27 PA > Occ: Keeping House Fa: NJ Mo: IRELAND > Nancy STEEL Dau F S W 10 PA > Occ: At School Fa: PA Mo: PA > William STEEL Son M S W 9 PA > Occ: At School Fa: PA Mo: PA > Emma STEEL Dau F S W 3 PA > Fa: PA Mo: PA > Minnie E. Dear Alice and all, How sad to be checking my emails and to find the news of Nancy Lindemann's passing. I have never met Nancy in person, but have felt like she was a friend for over ten years now. When I first started looking for my kin in Beaver County, I joined the BCGS and was overwhelmed with Nancy's help. She was so passionate about genealogy that she shared freely with everybody. She made me feel like Beaver County,PA was my home county, even though I am from Minnesota. Rather than just answer my letters, she added to my knowledge by telling me where the information was and who to contact. She did all of this with such a genuine friendly attitude. I used to marvel at how she put out top quality GLEANINGS while being President of the Society and doing research and Web work. In my imagination I pictured her in her home office with piles of "Things to DO" on every available space, wearing half glasses like the old time editors of newspapers. I know that all the rest of you are really wonderful too. And I realize how much the rest of you worked on the Society. I just will really miss Nancy. She became a genealogy role model for me through the years. I always hoped to do a research trip out there. I still will do so. I looked up the Beaver County Newspaper and read her obituary. She was so young. I will send the Society a small remembrance for her. I will keep her family in my prayers. God bless them all. Nancy Baldwin Lonsdale, Minnesota

Bob, If you have the time, could you please look at this book of yours, "Beaver Co. Marriages between 1830-1873" to see if there was a marriage announced in the local newspapers there for Joseph SENIOR and Hannah MARSHALL. I'm guessing the year was about 1857. I'm really looking for any lead. Thank you, Ginny

Sad to learn of the passing of Nancy Lindemann. Although I did not have the pleasure of meeting her, I know she had a very positive influence there. I purchased a membership last year because of how helpful the information I found was to me. I made a trip to Beaver Falls for the first time a couple weeks ago. I was very pleased with the bounty of information I found and how helpful the volunteers were. I am impressed. Thanks to their help, I was able to locate the grave site of my 4th GGfather, a RW veteran, and go there.I will make another trip most likely next summer. I'm also saddened very much about this report, but hopefully the people that are still there will keep the place going well. I know I've been doing this genealogy business needed people like her, willing to keep going the preservation of records, hopefully someone will be taking her place that will continue her legacy. You seem to love genealogy, Alice. perhaps you will feel up for the challenge!? I've been in doing this searching for 15 years, she was well known in the OH/PA area for sure! I'm sure she'll be missed. Please convey our listmembers condolences to her family. Nancy was a past president of the Beaver County Genealogical Society and the driving force behind the society for many years. If you have ever mailed a query to the society or if you have ever visited the BCGS website, you have seen the fruits of Nancy's labor. She was a native Beaver Countian and an avid genealogist. Nancy was a great believer in the power of the computer and owned one of the very first personal computers available to the public. She was a graduate of Geneva College and the mother of three boys and a grandmother several times over. She will be greatly missed.
