2. Cindy, Not sure of it was just a map of Penneslvania you wanted but, I do have a PA map site. Try this: Pennsylvania County USGS Maps OR http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/pa/county/ Wasn't sure you could use hyper-links or not. Good Luck and if this isn't what you ned let me know I have some other map sites around here someplace. lol God Bless Kat [email protected]

1. [PABEAVER-L] census help
2. Christi, Sometimes you can find an old map that is sectioned off by number (I used one like this at the Carnegie Library in Pgh) --- it has been a long time since I used it so this is all a vague memory for me --- that references a list with the same map. Somehow, from the list provided with the map (the map I used was in an old book), I was able to locate the ED. This is the best I can do right now for you but maybe someone on the list would know what type of map it was I used. There was no title that I remember on the book (it might have worn off) but it just seemed to be a book of maps of the city of Pgh --- perhaps you could find one for your areas of interest?? It is a long shot, perhaps, but it sounds like something that would help you. If you have a sub at Ancestry or a trial sub, something else you might try is scanning through the ED descriptions and narrowing your search to those EDs mentioning the name of your street of interest. Something else you might use is Mapquest. I know that Mapquest is current and street names have changed quite a bit but it was helpful to me (though it took some work) when I tried to find my Grandmother in Brooklyn in the 1920 census. Cindy

3. Christi, You might try going to the City Directories, find their names it'll have the street their names. Now, please don't assume I've looked in Beaver county, PA City directories, because I haven't as yet, but I have for near-by East Liverpool, OH, but assuming they're similarly posted, understand that the Carnegie Library in Beaver falls, is the place to go to look for EVERYTHING, in the immediate area, though I haven't had a chance, yet to look there much, but definitely plan to someday. Happy hunting, Cathy Raber ----- Original Message ----- From: Christi Timm To: [email protected] Sent: 10/5/02 11:19:38 AM Subject: [PABEAVER-L] census help I feel a silly asking, but I wonder if there's anyone who can help me understand how to find info on a census. 3. Instead of throwing away good genealogical information, why not sort it out nicely and give it to your nearest genealogical library or society. They probably would even do the sorting if you would just give it to them, and you could be surprised how happy some poor soul would be to run on to it one day and discover that was exactly what they needed! A good society or library collection doesn't limit its treasures to just that one geographical area even. Marian

3. This is my first posting to the Beaver County list. Most of my family lived in Somerset County since the late 1700s but I've hit a brick wall on one of my branches and since one of the children of this branch lived in Beaver County in 1949, I thought I'd try my luck. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Here's my brick wall - THOMAS WILLIAM HARTZELL January 6, 1871 - December 19, 1949 Thomas was the next to the youngest child of Melchi and Anne JOHNSTON HARTZELL. They had 15 children of which 12 survived childhood. Of the four remaining sons, Thomas was the only one that had children that the family knows of and this is the branch I'm having trouble finding. According to Thomas's obituary, he was living in Lemont Furnance, Fayette County at the home of his daughter, Stella, when he died. His children were listed as: Stella HARTZELL COLE of Lemont Furnance Myrtle HARTZELL HART of Lemont Furnance Anna HARTZELL MORROW of Pittsburgh Margaret HARTZELL DUMBAUGH of Aliquippa Bessie HARTZELL BELL of Brookvale James HARTZELL of Colonial No. 4 Charles HARTZELL of Evans Manor Maxwell HARTZELL of Dawson Oran HARTZELL of Maxwell When Anne JOHNSTON HARTZELL died in 1924, at the age of 98, there were eight of her children living and their descendents totaled just over 300. So far, I've found over 900 but Uncle Tom's family is a sticking point. THANKS!!!
