Are you referring only to 1930? I am fortunate enough to live 2 hrs away from the National Archives in Laguna Niguel. There they have the city directories for most & even what I consider small cities. You look up by surname. The clerk was most helpful in narrowing down what pages the streets would be on. I can't remember the system he used. If you go to a LDS Family History Center then you have to order the directories on film. That's expensive & tedious. I only wish I was able to get to Laguna Niguel often. This is the response I got when I questioned how to go about getting a log on. Janis Dear Researcher; This comes as a response to your inquiry regarding access to our HeritageQuest database. We recently discovered that the online product was improperly configured by the vendor. This error was allowing access to the product to ANYONE for free, which is in violation of our licensing agreement. That error has now been corrected. I regret to inform you that only those in our service area with a valid library card are allowed access. While we have briefly explored the idea of "charging" those out of our immediate service area, at this time our organization is not yet large or sophisticated enough to be able to administrate such a thing. As a "silver lining", however -- the responses we have received have been wonderful validations of both the product and the communications network among genealogists. We urge you to approach your local public library and encourage them to invest in HeritageQuest. I would also like to express my appreciation to all of your nice compliments and remarks concerning our website. We are grateful for your understanding and comments. Hi all, I have heard a few different things. 1) Apparently this is something that HeritageQuest offers to libraries. And of course you have to be a card carrier to use it. 2) (MHO)That the people running it underestimated how fast people would find out about it! 3) That they are putting in the log on. 4) That if you contact Heritage to try and sign up yourself, they will tell you to access it thru your library or contact Genealogy.com. I am on Gen.com and do have access to the 1870 census but it was not indexed as of earilier this week. But they could have added it. I am trying to access that page at this moment and can't get to the page because it is to busy! I am going to wait a week or so and try again to get on. Consider yourself lucky if you got some good stuff out of it! I have also contacted my own library about the site. I am hoping they will put it on their site. I recommend everyone contact there libraries. Terry It is not necessary to copy and paste every time you reply to the list. Remember to <snip> when copy and pasting.
And Terry, by the way, THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Most large cities are divided in Wards with streets for dividing lines go with a map and try to figure out which ward is the one you want and then be prepared to go thru several as they zigzag.
