If anyone comes across a Robert Fitzsimmons, died in 1865, I would love to know. I don't know where he's buried at all, just that he died in Beaver County. Thanks, Sharon Researching Fitzsimmons, Bumpass, McRae, McGregor, Downs

Hi, Many of the Germans in the northern end of the county attended Lutheran and Reformed churchs in the Zelienople area, which is actually in Butler County. The Zelienople Historical Society has a good collection of the local church records. Marian, I am having the same difficulty -- my Gaertner's, Kirschler's attended the Oak Grove Lutheran Church however, this was surely not their first church since the Gaertner's, Metz's (another line not at Oak Grove apparently) at least have been in Beaver Co, PA since at least the 1830's if not sooner. They had always been Lutheran according to one account, so I am glad you asked the question! Cindy, Thanks for the information, but I am wanting to find records earlier than that for my Havice/Hebeisen family. There are some records at Zelianople in the edge of Butler County PA for some of the Havice children, but the older ones were born before this particular church was organized. These church records named the parents as Abraham Hebeisen and Margaretta Esther Muller, while on legal records they were by then called Abraham Havice and Esther Havice. We had never been able to find any Havice family entering on ship records, but when we looked for Hebeisen there they were! Records in York Co PA show the immigrant ancestor to be a Philip Hebeisen. My John Havice was son of Abraham and married Margaret Lawrence, daughter of Philip Lawrence, Jr. We have found no church or marriage records for either of them, although their first three children were apparently born in Beaver County. The Beaver County Genealogical Society also has all of Dr. Ruff's books and has had him as a speaker at many of our monthly meetings. Marian, Oak Grove Lutheran Church (New Sewickley Township) also keeps its records at the church; they have not been microfilmed. I believe this church was once referred to as German Lutheran; it was first formed in 1873. The "German Church Records of Western Pennsylvania" have been translated and compiled by Dr. Paul Miller Ruff. Included in his collection are Christ Evangelical of Beaver Falls, St. Paul's of Rochester, St. Peter's of Monaca and St. Mathews of Wall Rose, etc. These records are available from Meckling Bookbindery of Chicora PA at www.mechlingbooks.com. I am not affiliated with this company other than as a very satisfied customer! Tom THUMM
Connie, Grace Lutheran Church on Adams Street in Rochester was founded in 1854. While not a German church per se, they did attract many local German families. Their records are shelved in the church office. Ed Brobeck
I am interested in this information also. Does anyone know where the archives would be for early records of the German Lutheran Churches in the area around Beaver Co? Marian
Can any one tell me where I can find the records for the Presbyterian Church in Beaver Co. My people are buried in Raccoon U.P. Cemetery. My understanding is that this Church burned, destroying all of the records. I'm wondering if there are duplicate records elsewhere. My E-Mail is [email protected] Thank you, Charles

I've "rescued" two photographs belonging to this family, the first is a photograph of Mary wife of William MCGEEHAN taken at the Elite Studio in Pittsburgh, PA. The photograph was probably taken in the 1890's and Mary appears to be in her 20's at the time. It is also noted on the photograph that Mary is an Aunt to S.M. DAVIS and L.A. LASLEY. Mary's last name appears to be spelled with both the "A" and the "O" on this same photograph. The second photograph is of Uncle James MCGEEHON, taken at the A.B. Chalfant Studio at 915 & 917 7th Avenue, Beaver Falls, PA. This photograph was also probably taken in the 1890's and James appears to be in his 50's at the time. The handwritten notations on the back of each photograph were made by the same hand so we know that they belong together, just not sure of the relationship between these two people. I'm hoping that someone from this family can be located so that this lovely photographs can be returned to their rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
