Hi Jean- I don't know where you can get it now. You'll have to inquire. I bought mine on ebay a couple of years ago. Dear Marilyn, Thanks so much for the lookup! The next time I'm up at the Beaver Falls research center, I'll research that Church and see if the records may be up there. Meanwhile I'll write them and see if they can locate a few items for me. -=Steve Bloomquist ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn Hesse" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 02, 2002 2:33 PM Subject: Re: [PABEAVER-L] Pastor M. FYI Just in case anyone is interested. There are some LAUGHER (could be a name variation) people buried in the Hillsville Cemetery in Hillsville, Mahoning Twp, Lawrence Co, PA. Sally, w/o Conrad, John and a Nancy. I beleieve that John was the first husband of Lovina Arner, her second husband was Samuel McCreary born in 1810. John Laugher's name is inscribed on the side of their headstone. Marilyn, Are the Beaver Centennial books available at the library or historical society do you know? And how much are they if you know? Thanks in advance, Jean
Steve- According to the Beaver Falls Area Centennial book the First Lutheran Church "was originally known as "The First German Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's Church". The charter was secured Dec. 7, 1874" .....and the list of ministers includes Rev. M.F. Lauffer, 1886-87... "Three church buildings have been erected. The cornerstone of the first church was laid Nov. 3, 1871, with dedication June 212, 1872. This frame building on Fifth Street was sold to the school board in 1882. Cornerstone of the second church was laid July 8, 1882, with dedication Nov. 19, 1882. This brick building at Sixth Avenue and Ninth Street served the congregation until 1910, when it was sold to the Polish Catholic (Holy Trinity) congregation. Cornerstone of the third building was laid at Fourth Avenue and 17th Street, the present location, Nov. 27, 1910, and the building dedicated Sept. 4, 1911. The present parsonage was built on the church ground in 1921. Begun as a German congregation, the church conducted services only in German for 50 years. English services were introduced in 1920, and both languages have been used since. Financial difficulties burdened the congregation until 1944, when a debt-free jubilee was held." In addition to my previous post, the name of the pastor could be M. F. Lauffer, or Lauffey as mentioned earlier. -=Steve Bloomquist
Does anyone know what church this pastor was affiliated with? (The name looks like M. F. Lauffey) He was an 'Evangelical Lutheran Pastor' who married some of my ancestors in Beaver Falls in 1887. The particular couple that he married were later affiliated with the German Evangelical Protestant church (modernly, First Congregational Church) in Beaver Falls, but that congregation wasn't founded until a few years after this marriage. The book "Beaver Falls Centennial 1868-1968" may mention this pastor, if anyone on the list has it. -=Steve Bloomquist
Ruth, Were you able to get the picture I sent to you? Donna
Hi Ed, We do get up your way so I have some of the pictures but I'm looking for information on the many tombstones the have been destroyed or broken from the weather and are piled up in one of the back corners. I'm hoping someone has old records of the ones that are now missing. Many of my husband's Crawford ancestors were buried there. Maybe McClellands, Millers, Marshalls and others are there, too but I haven't been able to find them or the tombstones are just too weather worn to tell what was on them. Thanks for your offer. If you ever hear of anyone with any records, I sure would appreciate a note from you. For newcomers: The Beaver Cemetery and Mausoleum are online with a searchable index. It has proven very useful in my research. The cemetery is over 130 years old. http://www.beavercemetery.com/ Deb
I don't know about the records, I understand the original building burned, but the cemetery is still there, near where they rebuilt. Now they have moved to the site of the original church and built again. I don't know if the cemetery is online. I don't recall seeing it. amie peoples ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2002 7:41 PM Subject: Re: [PABEAVER-L] Church record > In a message dated 10/31/02 4:14:21 PM Pacific Standard Time, > [email protected] writes: > > > > > > Can any one tell me where I can find the records for the Presbyterian > > Church in Beaver Co.
