    2. Robert Reese
    3. Clear DayI am looking for any and all information on Lyda J. HALL (b. Jun 1849 in PA). I recently learned that she was the second wife of my g/g/grandfather, David V. REESE whom she married on 19 Jul 1887. The 1900 U.S. Census of Beaver County, Beaver Falls Borough, she is listed as being 50 years of age, married to David for 12 years and they resided at 1312 Fourth Avenue, Beaver Falls, PA. 3. Thanks for your response. Actually, what I am trying to do is figure out which Mitchell family is referred to in an entry in a Civil War I have. It states "... I found Aunt J. Mitchell, cousin Sarah and Mrs. Mitchell at home". The writer's family lived in South Beaver township near the Blackhawk post office. I did find the following information on Samuel Mitchell in the "History of Beaver County" that may be of interest to you. This appears to be the "second" Samuel Mitchell rather than the one I am looking for. There was an Isabella Mitchell in the 1850 Beaver County census living in the household of James and Jane Martin (household 56 in South Beaver Township). This is probably the wife of James Mitchell mentioned below. "samuel mitchell, retired, P. 0. New Brighton, was born in South Beaver township Jan. 24, 1812. His grandfather, Hugh, came from Ireland about 1789 and settled in Westmoreland county, Pa. James, a son of this pioneer, was twelve years of age when his father came to Beaver county. He married Isabella Newell, who bore him three children, of whom Samuel is the eldest. James died in 1842, aged sixty-three years. He was a farmer and owned 400 acres of land. Samuel received a good education and taught school ten years. In 1842 he married Eliza, daughter of James Kennedy, of this county, and by her had three children: James S. (deceased), Scott and Joseph. Mrs. Mitchell died in 1871, aged sixty-two years. Mr. Mitchell has retired from active business life, and resides with his son Scott, on the homestead. He is one of the oldest and most respected citizens of the township. His second son, Scott, was born in 1845, and married, in 1869, M. J. Wilson. Their children are Eliza M., Samuel W., Edwin Scott, Ann L., Frank Stanley, Albert Ross and Eliza Bell. The family are members of the United Presbyterian church; Mr. Mitchell is a Republican. " There is also mentioned a J. W. Mitchell as the son of Samuel T. and Nancy Mitchell in the same book. Unfortunately, there is no other information on them but I suspect they are the family I am looking for. Again, thanks for your response. 3. Do you have any Mitchells married into Nelsons in your family tree? I have Mitchel(l), Nelson, Cearfoss, McCreary. Lambright is an Enon Valley, PA and East Palestine, OH name. There are some Thompsons buried in Hillsville Cemetery that I have not found any family for. I am not a Thompson researcher, I have been checking names of people buried in the Hillsville Cemetery in hopes of finding a relationship to my McCreary family buried there. 1. [PABEAVER-L] Samuel and Jane Mitchel
    2. James Fowler
    3. Looking for information on Jane and Samuel Mitchell. They lived in South Beaver Township of Beaver County for over 50 years. Particularly interested in any information about Jane's parents and verifying the names of Samuel and Jane's children. The family was first listed in the 1830 South Beaver township census with one girl under 5, one male 20-30 and one woman 15-20. The name is spelled as "Mitchal" in the 1840 listing with one boy 15-20 years of age and two girls under 5 and one 10-15. A Hugh Mitchell of approximately the same age as Samuel and is listed living next door in the 1840 and 1830 listings. In 1850, a Samuel Mitchell, Jr., age 39 was living four households away. Samuel is listed in the 1850 census living in South Beaver Township, age 46 and Jane as age 35, both born in Pennsylvania. Children were Sarah A., age 13 (This is probably an census error and most likely should be 23 based on later census); Salinda (later referred to as Melinda), 21, Matilda, age 11 and Marietta, 9. Living near Samuel and Jane in South Beaver Township was another Samuel. He is listed as " Jr." but his age was 39 so it is unlikely he was the son of the first Samuel. His wife is shown as Eliza, age 40 and they had three children, James, Scott and Joseph. These two Mitchell families lived within a few houses of one another for the next thirty years. Samuel and Jane were still living in South Beaver Township in 1860 with daughters Melinda and Matilda at home. A Nancy Mitchell was living next door with children with children William (age 10), John (age 8) and Thomas (age 6). The second Samuel Mitchell was living three households away. In 1870, Jane is listed as head of household, age 54. Daughter Sarah A., age 32 and Mary E., age 29 are also in the household as is a Christina Britton, age 10. This is apparently Sarah's daughter since in 1880, Sarah is still living with Jane but is listed as Sarah Britton and Christina is listed as a granddaughter. Again, the second Samuel Mitchell lived within a few houses. (Note: in 1850, Samuel and Margaret Britton were living next door to Samuel and Jane with their children: James (age 22), Jeremiah (20), Eleanor (25), William (16), Belinda (18) and Louisa (8).) 1. [PABEAVER-L] Location: Gardendale - From SMITH family obituary (repost?)
    2. Van Kirk, Jarrod
    3. I am not sure if this has gone through or not. I have not seen it. All: I found the following obituary during the course of my genealogy research, and I want to order the Death Certificate now, as I think the gentleman mentioned may be my great-great-grandfather. Does anyone know the location Gardendale? It may be somewhere near East Palestine, Ohio, but may also be in Pennsylvania near Beaver County. --------------------------------------------------- Beaver Falls Evening Tribune - Published February 8, 1916 "William J. Smith William James Smith, 60, of near East Palestine, O., died at the home of his son, W. S. Smith, Gardendale, Friday after four weeks of illness from pneumonia. Mr. Smith was born in Beaver county, May 20, 1848, and was married to Armanda E. Stover, to which union four children were born. He was buried Monday in the Wilson Cemetery near New Galilee." -------------------------------------------------- I think there is a HIGH probability that this is my William James Smith. They give his age as 60, but that is obviously wrong based on the dates listed. He would be about 67. Armanda E. Stover could easily have been Amanda E. Trover, his wife. Son, W. S. Smith could be his son, William S. Smith. 4 Children. (he had William S., Ida "Idie", Eliza, and Effa "Effie or Minnie". We know Idie, Eliza and William S. were all buried in Wilson Cemetery, where this William James was buried.

    3. Julie, Ya might try going to the Wills for certian years. I had gotten some Orphan court records that also had some wills on the same roll, from the LDS Library. I was sweetly surprised! Those wills sure do have allot of names on them the nice thing too is that they have the land descriptions on them too! And just for the price of a abt. $3.50 Plus copies of the microfilms ($4-6) three weeks time you have allot of info on your relatives! And NO, I don't have any affiliation with the LDS Library other than using it for my family tree research, but finding they do have a bunch of records! He remained on the home farm until twenty-one years of age, receiving a common school education, in 1851 married Eliza, daughter of Sampson Agnes Kerr, of this county. To this union have been born seven children, all now living: Lizzie Alice, John Allen, Lewis Washington, Cornelius Weygnantd, Sampson Kerr, Harriet Isabella, Agnes Marie. With the exception of twelve years our subject has always lived on the farm which he now owns, originally consisting of 200 acres, now 150, of which 100 are under high cultivation. Mr. Reed is a member of the Presbyterian church. All his life he has been one of the leading Democrats of the county, though never aspiring to any political office, but has served his township by filling several township offices to which he had been elected." 3. Connie, Do you have any information on that Behler/Beeler family in Beaver Co PA? A John Behler/Beeler married Susanna Lawrence in Franklin Co IN. She was daughter of Philip, Jr and Mary C. Lawrence who also were from Beaver Co. I didn't find them in the 1840 census in Beaver Co, but did find them in the 1850 census in Franklin Co. IN. Also listed in 1850 was Susanna's sister Margaret Lawrence who had married John Havice, no doubt in Beaver Coas their first 3 children were listed as born in PA. In the 1860 census Philip is gone and Mary C. is living with John and Susanna Beeler. His occupation was listed as engineer and born in Baden. Three children are listed, Mary C 11, Elisabeth 9, and Lucinda 5. Have just found a descendant of John and Susanna's daughter Elisabeth and she is searching for more information. Their children were listed in the 1860 census as born in Pennsylvania, and I assumed that was an error since they were married in Indiana. Perhaps they did return to Beaver Co for a time and then back to Indiana. Any help appreciated. Marian
