    3. Thank you so very much for all of that hard work. It is greatly appreciated. I believe that you have helped with McCreary info before. My Mrs. Damon must have been born after 1873 as she was the d/o Miller L. and Melissa "Jane" Kelly McCreary and they were married the end of October 1873. I just pulled out some notes! The 1880 Census for LaClair Twp, Scott Co, IA, where Melissa "Jane" McCreary was living at that time, does show a daughter Lizzie Mae, age 6. I had assumed that she had died since I had not found her in any following PA Census records with her family. You could be correct as this does fit now. Now, I'm wondering, did the baby come before the marriage (in those days?) or did Miller marry a young widow with a new baby? or was there a divorce involved? And, was Kelly her maiden name or was it from a previous marriage? There were Kellys living next to the McCrearys of Hillsville, PA in earlier Census records. Hmmm, just when I thought I was getting a grip on all of this! But, I do love a good mystery. Thanks again, Shari ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 06, 2003 11:55 PM Subject: [PABEAVER-L] Re: Elizabeth M. 3. Hillsville, PA is the last little burg on Rt 224 before you cross the OH line. However, you must make a turn off Rt 224 and drive a couple of miles, 2-3, to get to the cemetery. It is in Mahoning Twp, Lawrence Co, PA. There is info on Hillsville, Mahoning Twp and North Beaver Twp in "The History of Lawrence Co, PA". It mentions many of the original settlers names. 3. Marny, Thompson H. & Linda J.Lyon arrived in NY on 29 Dec. 1912 aboard the Ship New York from Southampton, U.K. They were married at that time, so may have been hitched in the UK. She gives as her status statement that she is the wife of an American citizen. Mr. Lyon was born in Butler, Butler, Pa 25 Apr. 1875. Mrs Lyon was born in 1878 in England. They gave as their destination, their home at 351 Jefferson St., Rochester, Beaver, PA. In 1930 they are renting a place on Ridge Blvd. in Brooklyn, N.Y. and he is working as a Marine Supt. for a company listed as I.M.M. In 1930 she gives as her date of emigration, 1915. This is incorrect as the 1912 date is certain. She may have been mistaken or may have been confused by the question, giving her date of naturalization instead. Hope this helps put the pieces together. Ed [email protected]

    3. Hello James, Do you have any information from the History of Beaver County, 1888 book regarding the Mitchel family? I checked mine, found one Samuel Mitchell, b. Beaver county 1852, grandfather, Hugh, "came from Ireland about 1789". (Hugh) Married Isabella Newell, had three children, Samuel the eldest taught school. . Samuel married Eliza Kennedy...and it continues. No Janes found here. If you'd like more let me know. Samuel Mitchell listed in the Beaver County Will book 1800-1900 are: Andrews, Hugh, James, Jane, John (2 1841 & 1887), Joseph, Mary J. Samuel (1869, 1889, Samuel Sr. 1861, Samuel T.1859) Scott and William A. Let me know if you would like more details of any above. Carol S. ----- Original Message ----- From: James Fowler To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, December 13, 2002 12:39 PM Subject: [PABEAVER-L] Samuel and Jane Mitchel Looking for information on Jane and Samuel Mitchell. They lived in South Beaver Township of Beaver County for over 50 years. Particularly interested in any information about Jane's parents and verifying the names of Samuel and Jane's children. The family was first listed in the 1830 South Beaver township census with one girl under 5, one male 20-30 and one woman 15-20. The name is spelled as "Mitchal" in the 1840 listing with one boy 15-20 years of age and two girls under 5 and one 10-15. A Hugh Mitchell of approximately the same age as Samuel and is listed living next door in the 1840 and 1830 listings. In 1850, a Samuel Mitchell, Jr., age 39 was living four households away. Samuel is listed in the 1850 census living in South Beaver Township, age 46 and Jane as age 35, both born in Pennsylvania. Children were Sarah A., age 13 (This is probably an census error and most likely should be 23 based on later census); Salinda (later referred to as Melinda), 21, Matilda, age 11 and Marietta, 9. Living near Samuel and Jane in South Beaver Township was another Samuel. He is listed as " Jr." but his age was 39 so it is unlikely he was the son of the first Samuel. His wife is shown as Eliza, age 40 and they had three children, James, Scott and Joseph. These two Mitchell families lived within a few houses of one another for the next thirty years. Samuel and Jane were still living in South Beaver Township in 1860 with daughters Melinda and Matilda at home. A Nancy Mitchell was living next door with children with children William (age 10), John (age 8) and Thomas (age 6). The second Samuel Mitchell was living three households away. In 1870, Jane is listed as head of household, age 54. Daughter Sarah A., age 32 and Mary E., age 29 are also in the household as is a Christina Britton, age 10. This is apparently Sarah's daughter since in 1880, Sarah is still living with Jane but is listed as Sarah Britton and Christina is listed as a granddaughter. Again, the second Samuel Mitchell lived within a few houses. (Note: in 1850, Samuel and Margaret Britton were living next door to Samuel and Jane with their children: James (age 22), Jeremiah (20), Eleanor (25), William (16), Belinda (18) and Louisa (8).)
