Research tip. When Pennsylvania was first established, there were three counties, Philadelphia, Bucks and Chester. From these three counties gradually evolved the present day sixty-seven counties comprising the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. There were also the three so-called lower counties: New Castle, Kent, and Sussex, which became the State of Delaware. If you go to www.libertynet.org/gspa/research.html it while tell you how each county by date evolved from one county to another by date. It can save you a good deal of aggravation from looking the wrong place.

Shari, I would try getting the death certificates/cemtery interment records definitely the obituary, but it being so long ago you might not have much info for the obituary. I would also check the Other Beaver county Histories, other than Warners! I checked my Warner's, here at home, didn't find anything, other than some bios on 2 Craig men, that doesn't seem to connect, though you might look into getting copies of them too. They're B.F. Craig Stephen A. Craig. Both men don't share the same parents, one is a doctor! But lived in Freedom. What areas did his relatives live in? Ya might ask him if he knows. Or he could go to the LDS Library Order wills ofr those years to see if they had one first then go them. There's a Wills index you could probably get off the BCGS. He does not belong to this mailing list. His info and questions are shown below: Per Jim: I am trying to pin down the mystery of Sampson Frye, son of John Frye and Catherine Warner. These people listed below are buried at the Little Beaver Cemetery in Enon Valley, PA. Harriett "Hattie" Fry Craig is buried on a lot that was "originally deeded" to her. There are 5 people buried on Hattie's lot: Harriett Fry Craig 1854--01/28/1940 Shared Stone (Shown as Craig, Harriet Fry) Sampson Fry 1855--1881 Shared Stone James McCowin 1837--1917 Susan McCowin 1839--1936 Hester Kale 1812--1892 Jacob Kale 1807--1882 I have searched the Little Beaver Twp. census for 1870 and 1880. I speculate that Harriet must have been a McCowin or a Kale, since these are the names of people buried in the section that she bought. The big problem is that the only Harriet McCowin I find is on Page 9A of the 1880 Census, ED 211, Little Beaver Twp., Lawrence Co., PA. She was listed as 18 and the wife of Wright McCowin , age 24. They are living next door to Alexander Wright with Alexander Davidson on the other side of them. This Harriet McCowin would have been born abt. 1862. Of some potential interest is that on the 1870 census, Alexander McCowin is living with the family of Alexander Wright. This could imply a relationship between the families. I find no Harriet Kale in either the 1870 or the 1880 census. So I now have no connection for sure to establish the connections of any of these people. I have no idea why they are buried together on a plot bought by Harriet. The shared stone for Sampson and Harriet ony doubles the puzzlement. Also, would anyone have a copy of Rev. Robert Dilworth's marriages for the Enon Valley area that they could look up marriages for any of these people? Could anyone help Jim Fry with his questions? Shari, Remember the southern part of Lawerance Co was part of Beaver until (I don't remember the date.) and the northern part was Mercer County. If that helps. My Edwards ancestors were in Darlington Twp. from 1860-1880, perhaps longer. I never saw it identified by West Darlington in those years. Was this West Darlington a later distinction? Carol, none that I know of. But remember state and county lines didn't mean that much to our ancestors. At times I don't think the census taker and others knew where the lines were. One thing to remember in that area is that Lawerence County was cut out of the north side of Beaver and southside of Mercer, so make sure to look in Lawerance County for wayward ancestors Good Luck, Todd ----- Original Message ----- From: "aceso225" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 14, 2003 3:59 PM Subject: [PABeav'r] PA- OHIO BORDER > Hello all, > > Inquiring if there were any changes in the BEAVER - COLUMBIANA borders from 1850 to the > present? Please, please tell me how and when???? I have a terrible time finding Risinger info. I think that my family came from York in 1760s; then were in Washington Co PA when a son made his way to Beaver where my group stayed. Joseph Baldinger and wife Cecelia lived on 4th Avenue in Beaver Falls, Beaver Co, PA, according to the 1910 and 1930 Census. This Joseph J. Baldinger is the right age and ancestry to be linked as a child of the Charles Baldinger family of Pittsburgh. Does anyone on the list have info about this family?
