I am trying to find out what my ancestor, David PUTNEY, did in Freeport, prior to purchasing the property that would eventually become Putneyville. He married Lavinia STEVENSON in 1818, in Pittsburgh, according to the biographies I have seen. They then moved to Freeport, where they lived together until 1833. Then he moved to the Putneyville property with his older sons, while she remained in Freeport until there was a proper house to move into in Putneyville. This represents about a 15 year time span where I don't know his occupation. I do know that most, if not all, of his kids were born in Freeport. If anyone knows of any sources where I can find this information out, I would appreciate the help. Also, since he was a state legislator, I would think that there would be obituaries or biographical sketches in the local papers. Does anyone know what paper would have covered the Putneyville area in 1854 (the year he was elected) through 1879 (the year of his death), and if it would be available through ILL? Patti
