This is just my opinion, but if you were seeking to do research at various librarys it might benefit you to have the digital camera, or a scanner for which you can transfer the Gif, or JPG to your PC, or Mac Home page. If you would need to copy a number of photos or printed/written material it could be a very good thing for you.
