I try to keep my answers public, as long as we're discussing genealogy and not file sharing details or personal stuff that others don't need to know. Many times a healthy threar has started because each new name mentioned brings a response from someone else (2) no one puts subjects, like surnames, > in the subject line. Most of that line is taken up with PAARMSTR-L and we > know that's what it is. We are doing genealogy and looking for surnames and > we want to make the time that we are paying for work for us. Messages should be titled better - like surname, township, year. If a subject is changed, go ahead and change it before you send your message - this thread was still labeled 'Hancock', so I changed it to 'message subject lines' > (2)I think the PAARMSTR Introduction should be eliminated. A better > introduction would be to list surnames instead. > As far as the mailing list name in the subject, I believe this is something that rootsweb is doing. I belong to eight different counties, I can glance at the inbox and see Armstrong, Indiana, Jefferson, Westmoreland, etc at the front of the subject. When I clean the inbox, and sort by subject, all the messages from the same list are grouped together. If you use an inbox assistant, the message can automatically be routed to a folder before being read, because the 'PAARMSTR' is part of the subject. > Pat > Genealogy forever--housework hardly ever!
