My husband's grgr grandmother was supposedly a full blooded Iroquois Indian named Jane Nolder. She was born, I think, in Allegheny Co. but lived in Armstrong Co. where there were Nolders. I have wondered if she could have lived in Shelocta. Could you check your book from the church for any Nolders. Thanks for offering to help. Susan >> Susan, I am sorry, but there were no NOLDER's in this booklet. (there are only 9 pages to the whole thing). Again, this booklet covers the membership of the church in 1992 though. I checked some records I have from the "Biographical and Historical Cyclopedia of Indiana and Armstrong Counties Pennsylvania" 1891, and states this for Shelocta: "Shelocta was laid out in 1836 by Abner Kelly and called Shelocta for an Indian chief of that name who resided on Crooked Creek. Previous to this the place was known as Sharpsburg or Sharp's Mills, from the grist-mill erected there in 1824 by Joseph and Thomas Sharp. Shelocta was organized as a borough in 1852 and is now one of the prosperous towns of the county." The article does not specify which Indian tribe though. I only have excerpts from this book (boy, I wish I had the whole thing!) I am sorry that I couldn't be of more help to you. Regards, Lynnette
