Census information is available online by subscription. Ancestry.com has many of the censuses available for all the USA. However, only a couple are indexed by name. (General subscription $70 plus $30 for census access). (http://www.ancestry.com/search/io/main.htm) Genealogy.com also has the 1900 US census for many states by subscription ($80 a year or $15 a month). This census is indexed and searchable by name.
