We've been having a discussion on the Ogle County, ILL list about the massive exodus of our Pennsylvania Dutch & Maryland ancestors to Illinois in the early to mid-1800's, and would love to hear from folks in Pennsylvania & Maryland! Some of the points made on the Ogle County list: The movement didn't happen in the very early 1800's because of the black hawk wars. Families were so big and the mountainous area in the east was difficult to farm and raise enough food to feed everyone. Newspapers advertised for people to settle in Illinois. Can anyone recommend books covering the subject? We'd love anything you can add!
