Smith, 92, of LaVerne, Calif., died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in Woods Convalescence Hospital in LaVerne. She was born Dec. 11, 1908, in Leechburg, Pa., the daughter of Harvey and Jane (Hawk) King. Mrs. Smith was a Chardon resident from 1932 until 1960. She was employed at Chardon Rubber Co., and then worked at the former Finch Cleaners in Chardon, in alterations. Also, Mrs. Smith was a sales worker at Grace Apparel in Hemet, Calif. She was a former member of the Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon. Mrs. Smith enjoyed sewing, watching basketball on television and reading. Survivors include sons, Stuart Smith of Salinas, Calif., Greg Smith of LaVerne, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1981, whom she had been married to for 49 years; her parents; brother, Erwin King and sister, Margaret Evans. Graveside service will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Chardon Municipal Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Penrod of Pilgrim Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
