    1. [PAARMSTR-L] Freeport family -- Woods and Carnahan

    3. I found my William Woods family in the 1850 census of 1850 Page 123 Freeport Twp, Armstrong Co PA. They moved to Iowa by the mid-1850's. William was a coal digger, his wife listed at various times as Hannah or Fanny Carnahan was born in Westmoreland County, PA about 1814 or 15. William was born either in Washington or Westmoreland County, PA. The birth places came from William's obituary in 1883 and from an Iowa history book published in the early 1900's. The first five children were born in Armstrong County: James Washington Woods born 1838 John Calvin Woods born 1842 Elizabeth Ann Woods born 1844 Amanda Jane Woods born 1848 William Theodore Woods born 1854. The youngest child Francis A. Frank Woods was born in Iowa in 1857. In 40 years of searching I have never discovered a parent or sibling for William. My only clues for Fanny Carnahan is the fact that the Woods lived next to David K. Carnahan and wife Sarah Ringle Carnahan in the 1855 Jackson County, Iowa census; and that an Elizabeth Carnahan born in PA sometime in the 1780's lived at the David Carnahan home a the time of the 1855 census, and after that time lived with the William Woods family until her death in January 1880 in Iowa. Does anything here spark a memory for anyone, or can anyone offer a suggestion for a research approach I have missed? Thanks! Gayle in Kansas
