According to a history of the Rupp family put together in 1965 by Myron B. Umbaugh, son-in-law of William A. Rupp who in turn was a grandson of the Adam Rupp you are referring to, Adam Rupp, husband of Rosannah Hartzell, died in 1861 which would indicate that he would not have died in Tennessee in the Civil War.
