The township was named after Colonel (later General) Armstrong who commanded the celebration against Kittanning. It seems to have been organized in 1784 or 1785. Washington Township was created from Armstrong Township in 1807. Center Township was formed from Armstrong Township in 1807 and was named for its position within the County. White Township was formed in 1843 and named for Judge Thomas White. It was created from parts of Center, Washington, Green, and Armstrong Townships. Rayne Township was created from Washington and Green Townships in 1845 If anybody knows the present days townships, I would also be interested. Thanks!
