    3. Donna: You can't get a death CERTIFICATE from the County Courthouse. The County Courthouses have death RECORDS. There is a difference. Death CERTIFICATES are issued from/by the state and cost $3.00 Only those persons who died in 1906 or after have death certificates. Death RECORDS are generally only ledger entries. What you will get for deaths prior to 1906 from the counties (if they have the record) is a photocopy of the line entry in the ledger. The counties weren't very good at keeping the records.
