Hi As far as I know there was never a regimental history published for the 139th. There are histories for the 14th. Cavalry and the 63rd., 78th. 103rd. and 155th. Infantry units all of which are available from mechlingbooks.com. I think the hardest fought and most interesting regiment with Armstrong County boys was the 63rd. involved in many of the more famous battles such as Gettysburg, Fredricksburg, Wilderness etc. The most interesting and well written, I believe, is the 155th. History. It was written, in part, by one of the participants from Dayton, Sgt. William Porter and I will always remember his comment about how he and his comrades were all old and sick before their time as a result of what they endured. Porter had great insight and was a seasoned and decorated soldier and was a man to be admired both then and now. Fred Brient
