Darla, Offhand, since that is the only GEIST in the 1870 census age 17 with a name like Frank, I think you have your man. However, how do you know he is the son of George and Barbara, since he is a carpenter apprentice living with the Wonderling family. Thanks for the suggestion but 1850 is the first time children are listed in a census, therefore I can't find him as a child in anyone's home before he married. He has been married almost 20 years before the 1850 census. Finding the parents of William and his wife Fanny/Hannah Carnahan has been fruitless so far. I have no information or proof ... not even a hint for parents or siblings. Thus my curiosity about Mary's date of death and hopes for an obituary. It is almost impossible to even track land records in PA because they are indexed by the first name of the individual buying and selling land, and then go to the surname after that. If there had been a simple way to check all the Woods in Freeport Twp in the early 1800's that wouldn't have been so bad, but it apparently doesn't work that way. I appreciate all suggestions and perhaps something will turn up yet! Gayle
I'm trying to find out the parents of a Frank B. Geist b. 1851-1853 married to a Sarah Rebecca Buffington. I found Frank and Rebecca in the 1900 through 1920 census in Redbank Twp., Armstrong Co., Pa. In the 1900 census Frank b. Sept. 1852. Mudlic Cemetery has him b. 1851 -1941, Rebecca 1859-1927. I'm trying to find out if his parents were George and Barbara (Kessler) Geist of Jefferson Co., Pa. Any help would be appreciated. Darla
Dear Phyllis, My information also shows that Simon was not the youngest Uber "brother" in fact far from being the youngest he was the oldest son of Johannes Peter and/or Georg & Anna Maria (Zeigler) Uber. The only older sibling was Elizabeth. I have never seen more information about Elizabeth. I have no idea if the following is correct but it is what I have found. If some kind soul (SKS) has any further information, additions, corrections, deletions or ideas how, where and what to search I would be most happy if they would contact me on or off list. Does anyone know if these Uber's are connected to all the Uber's in the Philadelphia, PA area? Can you check an earlier census to see if William turns up as a child under another roof? Just keep good track of the year he was born and do a little digging. Gayle, Yes, my Ann Woods Sharp died about 1806 and I haven't pinned down who her parents and siblings were. I have heard Michael Woods suggested, and I know there were some Carnahan's inter-related. I promise I will hunt up my notes on this family, and keep a copy of your message. Thanks for writing! Hello I wonder if there is a way to check to see if Mary Woods who was 78 years of age in the 1850 census in Freeport, or the others I found there, John and Jane Woods were 52 and 42 in the 1850 census (and are there in the 1860 census). There is a James and Ann Woods in the 1850 census age 55 and 43, with them are James, William and Andrew Michler ages 12, 15, 18. My Wm and Hannah (Fanny Carnahan) Woods were in the 1850 census, and then with their children moved to Iowa about 1855. My problem is trying to determine if any of the first paragraph have a connection to my family who moved to Iowa. Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated! Gayle in Kansas

Thanks for writing Peggy! I have William and Hannah (Fanny) Carnahan Woods born around 1815 who are living in Freeport Twp Armstrong County at the time of the 1840 and 1850 census prior to their move to Iowa. I have no proof of parents or siblings for them. There is a Mary Woods age 78 living with John Woods age 52 and his wife Jane 42 two pages away from William in the 1850 census. I would like to think they might be relatives. I had hoped the small cemetery at Freeport or perhaps the larger cemetery would have Mary and perhaps a spouse and John and Jane in that cemetery. I am just a bit too late for your family I am afraid, unless you can move closer into the 1800's. Let me hear from you please. Gayle in Kansas
Gayle, Which Woods and Carnahan's are you researching? I believe my Woods is Michael Woods, and he lived in the 1700's...anything familiar? I would have to check my notes for more details on that family. I believe he may have lived in the Elderton area. Hi Joyce: I was at that cemetery this past summer a couple of times updating a list I have. There are a lot of stones that have been knocked over and buried, or have just become unreadable over time. I have a lot of Anthony's on my list but no Robert or Thomas. My efforts to find an older list both with the local Burial Service and Perpetual Care Assn. were unsuccessful. All they have are lists of plot owners from about the early 1960's. There is no caretaker that I'm aware of. Some time back, I learned that there may be a small, very old, inactive cemetery near Freeport. It was reported that those tombstone inscriptions were available in the Freeport area but probably no where else. I don't have any further information. Is there someone who can help me? I am looking for Woods and Carnahan family that might be buried there. Thank you! Gayle in Kansas
