    2. Patti Caldwell Fasy
    3. Hi y'all, Think that I sent more messages in the last few days that this entire year. This should be the last one for a while. For the next couple of weeks, I may not be able to respond to any questions or problems as quickly as I usually do cause (1) tomorrow, I'm moving. Staying in the same town, but new home. (2) Tue Nov 25, I'm leaving sunny Florida to go up north for Thanksgiving. I'll be gone til Tue Dec 2. I will have my laptop with me but can't guarantee internet access everywhere. Speaking of internet access, in my new home I'll be changing internet providers. Our local cable TV company (Media One) offers speedy, speedy internet access. It's suppose to be the fastest next to the telephone company line which costs in the $1,000's. I'm real excited about this. I will have a new email address & domain name, but I'll advise the lists when it will be active. For the first few weeks, I'll probably keep my present name & internet access account. More on this later. Hope everyone has a very happy thanksgiving & good search results!! 1. IMPORTANT LISTMISTRESS MESSAGE
    2. Patti Caldwell Fasy
    3. Hi Cousin Rooters, Very shortly, all mail sent to my mailing lists will be archived. The archives will be open to all, both list subscribers and non-list subscribers. You will be able to search for surnames, locations, etc. Presently there is a sample of the archives at the following URL. You are free to go to the site & experience first hand the format with which our lists will be archived. <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists> Here is the URL to use for my lists when they are archived: <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/PAARMSTR-L> - Armstrong County, PA <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/PABEAVER-L> - Beaver County, PA <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/PABUTLER-L> - Butler County, PA <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/PAMONTGO-L> - Montgomery County, PA <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/PAWESTMO-L> - Westmoreland County, PA <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/CALDWELL-L> - surname Caldwell <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/FLICK-L> - surname Flick <<http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/lists/KENNEDY-L> - surname Kennedy These URL's will also appear on the tagline at the bottom of the postings. Also, other Rootsweb genealogy mailing lists will be archived. All archives will be available for you to read. You may want to scan some of the archives of the lists to which you are not subscribed. This will give you the opportunity to view the material being discussed on a list before you subscribe. If you see topics of discussion which interests you, you may want to subscribe to that list. Among the many advantages to archiving are: 1. If you have to unsubscribe for a period of time, you can view messages that you missed by going to the archives. 2. A new subscriber can view messages that were posted previous to their subscribing to the list. 3. If you accidently delete a message you can go to the archives an retrieve and/or view the message. 4. You can preview a list before subscribing. VERY IMPORTANT One last message. As y'all are aware, our mailing lists are made possible by some very generous and very, very hardworking people at Rootsweb. Namely Karen Isaacson, Ben, Laurie, Marc Nozell, Tim Pierce, Barry Zurawicz, and others. Without the hard work and generosity of these people, our mailing lists, as such, would not exist. By way of comparison, Rootsweb (WITH A BUDGET OF $60,000/YEAR) ships substantially more bytes than www.familytreemaker.com and familytreemaker's budget runs over $500,000/year. What Rootsweb has managed to do reflects the efforts of all the volunteer Webmasters and listowners, and the volunteer system administrators. Looking at what we've done with $60,000, think about what we could do if most of the 300,000 online genealogists became Members or Sponsors. We could make a serious run at creating online resources to rival the Salt Lake City Family History Library. Real commercial main servers cost $10-60K or more. Surf to any VAR's Website. (A "VAR" is a value-added reseller -- that's where you go to buy off-the-shelf server boxes.) Brian hand built ours and managed to bring them in at about $6,000 a box, which is dead as cheaply as you can build these things without using schlock components. We've built four main servers in the last year (BL-12, BL-30, FP-1, FP-2), have one in reserve, and one under construction. That's $36,000 right there. Auxiliary servers run about $2-3,000 a pop, and we've built a number of those (BL-4, BL-5, BL-7, ns-245, wavegate, ... ). T1 pipes cost $2-3,000 per month in California. Surf to Pac Bell and any backbone provider's Web page to verify those costs. We have two of those puppies, but their annual cost is less than $48-72,000 because we only buy the outbound side and ISPs use the inbounds. Routers, switches, and secure hubs run $1-3,000 a pop, and we have a number of these devices scattered over three NOCs. Uninterruptable power supplies and batteries run us $1-$2,000 each, and we have two sets of those guys. And a propane generator at the third NOC. Cables, backup tapes, and all the other odds and ends are also sort of frighteningly expensive when you add them all up. You shouldn't need a calculator to figure out where the $60,000 in expenses came from. With demand increasing at about 20% per month, it's sort of a no-brainer that next year will be at least as expensive as last year. And we're certainly going to be adding a third and possibly a fourth T1 by the end of next year. Moreover, Brian would *really* like to bring at least one heavy-weight server on line for supporting search engines, and a box with a pair of big RAID-5 arrays and a gig of DRAM is going to wind up costing us at least $20,000 to build even with me handcrafting it. At least $20,000 of the money spent came out of the above people's pockets. Where does that leave us, the beneficiaries of these marvelous lists? We could help defray some of the $20,000 in out-of-pocket expenses that Brain and Karen have come up with so that Rootsweb may continue. If everyone who utilizes these list would send $5, $10 or $20 to Rootsweb, "the financial burden wouldn't be so great on so few". Another way to help is to become a Rootsweb Listowner. I know that as "Rooters", we spend this much and more on yearly postage alone. Please search your hearts & give what you can. Thanks guys and successful searching! 2. Bob Minteer
    3. -----Original Message----- From: Fred H. Held <fhheld@freewwweb.com> >>> >Bob, > >Are you aware of the village of Mateer near South Bend? Could be another >variation on your name. > I've had a couple of people mention this to me. There was an article in the Boston Transcript about 1912 or 1913 stated the surnames Minteer, Mateer, McIntire, McTeer, McAteer, Montier and Montour all have their root founded in the same French word, and I also have some other writings which provide some theoretical linkage between some of these names. Unfortunately, I've not been able to dig up any sure connections for my line back to the late 1700's. Maybe something is to be found before that. I have, however spoken with Connie Mateer at the Armstrong County Historical Society in Kittanning. Apparently, she's managed to trace her lineage w-a-a-a-y back beyond and into Ireland (I think). William Minteer's (b. 1778) roots are said to go back to a couple of brothers from France (his grandfather & g-uncle) rather than Ireland. But still.... I lack credible sources. regards... Bob Minteer btw... I do have a bunch of photos and some home video of the following cemeteries where Minteer's can be found: Herman-Union Cemetary (Charles G., Robert), Sewickly, Worthington, and Slate Lick (William & Mary and a bunch of others). If anyone wants pix email'd to them, just let me know and I'll scan 'em and send 'em (we have the technology <grin>). ==== PAARMSTR Mailing List ==== To contact Patti Caldwell Fasy, Listmistress, click below: mailto:glitters@naples.infi.net remember, "Please practice random acts of kindness"........

I tried the USGS mapping service for you http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html. Check the feature type list it is quite extensive. I could not find either the Heilman Cemetery or the South Bend Cemetery, but my guess it the South Bend Cemetery is at South Bend. Your best place to find out is to go to the Armstrong Co GenWeb page http://www.nb.net/~qoe/armgene/ and ask there. They have been very responsive to my questions. I believe I have family in the Heilman Cemetery also, since I've seen it listed in some of my ancestor data. Fred Researching: W. Would appreciate any information someone might provide re Mabel. There is a family connection with my wife, but we are not certain of the relationship - possibly through the Cochran line. Appreciate any help that can be given. Mabel was a school teacher in the Dayton area, and had also served as a missionary in the 1950-60 period. Thanks in advance.
