And now we know you're in Armstrong here's a question on maps. In Smith's History of Armstrong County, he refers to many "base maps", the Lawson & Orr map as an example. Are these available somewhere? Some of Smith's land title exchanges are incomprehensible without them, but I've never seen them. Also, the 1800's little tax assemssment books. They were in pretty bad condition in the mid 1980s. Are they still avialable? I found great references on relatives and occuptions. Brian Green Great Falls, Virginia

    3. A recommendation on Sugarcreek Township is to match the data you have to the township boundaries that have been created out of the large area original Sugarcreek. How? ----Take your Census data for the person you have and list their Census neighbors. Match the neighbors to names on the 1860 Pomeroy map and the later 1873 Pomeroy Atlas maps for Armstrong County. The 1873 map atlas can be purchased from Mechling at http://members.aol.com/armechling/mechweb.html I did this with a 1830 Census entry for Sugarcreek Township and found that the person is, if alive today, in Perry Township. One other relative ended up in Washington Township. Brian Green Great Falls, Virginia

    3. REally don't mind doing it at all-- as long as people don't expect an immediate answer. The five of us have been laid low by the flu in the last three weeks, and are in varying degrees of recovery, so my genealogy has taken a back burner. I am really behind. I promise I will work on all these tomorrow when I get the chance. In the meantime, could you all check your databases for spare Bishes? No amount of info is to small for me! 2. Maureen, I have several files and books to go through to check out your families. I should have some answers (pro or con) sometime Saturday. Will get back to you as soon as possible. My Armstrong Co. families were primarily in Perry Tp, some Bradys Bend. Those I have good files on are ROBINSON - STEEL - ELDER - BARGER - TRUBY, and some collaterals such as SEYBERT/SEIBERT - RUMBAUGH - LOGAN - DAUBENSPECK, etc. The BAUMANs were early in Montgomery and Northampton Cos; and the file currently is mostly SEYBERT. The BARGER & ELDER families were also in Perry Tp, Clarion Co. In Venango Co., Scrubgrass Tp, nr Emlenton were my MATTERN family. MILLERs married into my BARGER family, and I know I have at least one SNOW, but don't remembert which of the families she is in. My ROBINSONs, incidentally, were in Lower Hillville, not the ones in Parker and Hovey Tp. However, I do have info on Parker ROBINSONs, too, since they married into the TRUBYs. More later. 2. Maps are available from the Armstrong County Recorder's Office which show the formations of the various current townships from their larger parent townships as well as the year said split occurred. If logistics is a problem contact me and I will make them available with sase. Mr. Green's sugestion relative to neighbor comparisons on the two available maps is excellent and effective most of the time. I have, however, had to do it the hard way on occassion and run the property title forward to the current owner. One of the few luxuries afforded by living in Armstrong County I suppose.
