Off the top of my head, I cannot remember the web address, but if you go to the PA GenWeb http://www.usgenweb.com click on PA, then Armstrong Co, then archives, then cemeteries, you'll get there. I would have emailed you directly, but every email I've sent to an aol address in the last 24 hours has bounced. Don't know if it's my ISP or AOL. Michael
Did you send to New Castle in PA for his death record? If he died after 1906, and you know the exact date and place, it seems as though they should be able to find _something_ for him. Sometimes they are really picky about exact dates, etc, but most of the time they will check around for you. They ALWAYS keep your $3 whether their search is successful or not! Sometimes I think I would like to get into those birth and death records and do some checking around myself. Imagine the genealogy we could all get done if we could "browse" in New Castle! In a message dated 98-02-15 11:07:38 EST, you write: << My name is Jeff Groves and this is my first post. Most of my ancestors came from Armstrong Co. Been trying to do the genealogy for Jacob BAUM and Nancy CHARLTON and know they were probably in Pine Twp., and Boggs Twp., 1850-1900. Cannot find a cemetery listing for them. Went to Glade Run, Presby. this afternoon in Dayton, and combed it, but no Baums there. Does anyone know if the Armstrong Historical Society have a fairly complete index of Armstrong Co., Cemeteries? I have gone through the indexes on the Armstrong County Web page and also what listings are in the Indiana Co. Historical Society. Any help or suggestions? Chuck Bollinger
Well, I didn't find you in my Knisely history, nor did I find your Nicely family on the 1850 census of Armstrong co., PA. However, if you know George's death date is after 1906, you should send for his death certificate, which may tell you his parents, etc. Sometimes, death cert's are a big disappointment, but once in a while you strike gold. If you find out his parents, let me know and I will check the Knisely history again. Seems like you should belong in here somewhere. I have a Knisely genealogy and will check it for you, if you give me some names to look for. I am a descendent of John Samuel and Susannah (Lingenfelter) Knisely. Also spelled Nicely, etc. Sherry Jesberger ---------- > From: Jeffery L Groves <grovesmusik@juno.com> > To: PAARMSTR-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [PAARMSTR-L] Armstrong Co. I saw a reference to an Arsmtrong Co PA website I cannot retrieve. Can you give me the correct URL? Am seeking Armstrong Co Cemetery Listings. My ancestors in the county are Ellenberger, Fair, and Hahn which I will pursue on this site shortly. Thanks. Tom Hahn North Fort Myers FL
Jim, This sounds like a very good possibility. The farthest I go back is to John Wiles. From the info I have, he was born in 1779 'out east'. He moved into Sugarcreek Twp., Armstrong Co. in 1800 from Westmoreland Co. with his wife Elizabeth. They had two children that I know of, Joseph (my g-g-g-grandfather) and Simon. Do you have any additional info on Joseph's children? Jeff _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Just found great site. PA items to buy and sell. All has to do with genealogy. Check it out. http://nt.carrollcon.com/chet2/scripts/TradingPost.asp Joyce
Sherry, Maybe I will try again with a little less information on the form. Maybe what I have as the date of death, or place of death is not exact. He died on 2/18/1906, so they should have it recorded. Hi Jeff I have found Nicelys (Kniesle) in Westmoreland Co they are related to the Nicely's in Armstrong Co. For your infomation. Dave
Sherry, I have only traced the Niceley's in my family to George, born 4/15/1840 in PA. He served in the Civil War, Co. K 155th PA Volunteers. He married Susannah Troutner and lived in Valley Twp, Armstrong Co. according to the 1870 Census. He and Susannah had 9 children, their youngest, Elmira, was my great-grandmother. He died on 2/18/1906 and is buried in Appleby Manor Cemetery. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. I do have fairly reliable info on George and Susannah's children, taken from what is left of Susannah's Bible, that my Grandmother passed on to me.
