Need help with the following: John G. HAHN was probably born about 1818 in Wuerttemburg, Stuttgart, Germany. There is a John G. HAHN listed in Philby's PHILADELPHIA NATURALIZATION RECORDS. He was the minister of St. Paul's German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millerstown Borough, Butler Co. In 1851 he married Mary Ann ELLENBERGER (details of marriage not known) of Sherrett, Armstrong Co. They had children born in IN, MI, OH and in Armstrong Co and Peachville, Fairview Twp, Butler Co. He was probably in those places as a Lutheran minister. I do not know his parents, ancestors, proof of birth, when and from where and on what ship he emigrated or whether he was with his family. I do not know where he first settled or was naturalized, whether or not he owned property, or where he and his wife Mary Ann ELLENBERGER were buried, though their deaths were probably 1883-1889 in Butler Co. There is a John HAHN @92 in the Butler Co 1880CS who is, I suppose a possible father or uncle.I have some data on his children, especially Christian Frederick HAHN (my paternal grandfather) who settled in Wyandotte Co KS with brothers Augustus and Paul. Christian Hahn married Martha Defries b 1866 Wyandotte Co KS. They later moved to White City Morris Co KS and then to Topeka Shawnee Co KS where they died and are buried. Would like to exchange information on the HAHN and ELLENBERGER (And FAIR) families. Tom Swiftwater HAHN~~~, Fort Myers FL

Wher do I go for birth certificates??? >> That depends on when they were born. If it was 1906 or later, you would write to PA Dept. of Health, Div. of Vital Records, P.O. Box 1528, New Castle, PA 16103. Send $4.00 for each birth certificate you are requesting. If they were born prior to 1906, you need to contact the county courthouse...I believe it was Clarion County. They should have birth records there beginning in about 1893, although they might have some from earlier than that. If neither one of these searches turns up anything for you, have the folks at the courthouse check the delayed birth records. In quite a few cases, the birth wasn't recorded in a timely fashion. Later on, these folks came across a situation where they needed proof of their age...usually involving Social Security in some way. They would then go to the county courthouse where they were born and get a Delayed Birth Record. The biggest stumbling block you may encounter in searching for a DBR is that you probably wouldn't be able to determine when such a record might have been applied for and obtained. Hope this helps! My aunt give me the d. 1940 for both Margaret and Rebecca which would make me guess that at least one is wrong, maybe both, or even reversed for the two. Thanks for your time and any information on any of the above. Bob Cramer kathybob@erols.com

Hi y'all, There seems to be a lot of discussion about the way postings to this list should be so I'll try to clear things up a bit. 1. As far as PAARMSTR-L showing in the subject: this is the way that I elected for Rootsweb to show this; the advantage being that most people are signed up on more than one list & when they set up their mailing program to filter messages or if they want to simply scan the subject line, they can identify the sender quickly. The subject line should be showing the subject of your post and it's much easier to read if it's in all caps. If your showing a surname, do not put spaces between the letters! Hence Caldwell should show as CALDWELL. When replying to a message, please look at the subject line & if your reply isn't on the same subject, change the line to reflect what your posting. 2. As far as signature lines; this should be left to the choice of the sender. Some of us love to use long signature lines others use none. I've made many connections from signature lines alone. 3. Now to replies going to the list; when someone makes a request to the list, it's posted for all to read. The concensus of most members is that the reply to a question should be posted for all to read. If your simply thanking someone for work done or want to make general comments only applicable to one person, please address these to the person in question and not the entire list. Again please look when using "reply to sender" and if your reply should not go to the entire list, change the sender address. This list has been set up for all replies to go back to the list. 4. When replying to a message, don't resend the entire message back. Use the cut & paste method; only sending back what is pertinant to your reply. These lists are quite active with lots of messages going back & forth so we all need to be considerate of our posts! If anyone has any comments on this post, please send it to me privately & not to the entire list. Keep up the good work & happy hunting! Patti Caldwell, Listmistress <impattic@mediaone.net>
Thanks Dan for the look-ups and for keeping my surnames 'alive'. Also ANDRY is spelled either ANDRYS or ANDRUS. Many thanks Marybeth
Do you have any listings for Collingwood, Stowers, McMillen, or Amstrong? Thanks Sher
Irene, The only JACK I have in Crooked Creek Cem. is Andrew JACK ; died 18 Nov 1874, age 82 yr, 3 mo, 27 da. JACK is a popular Gilpin Twp. (Leechburg Area) name, so I checked the JACK'S in those cemeteries. Quite a number but not the family you are looking for. I checked a handful of other sources I have but no luck this time. Sorry.
