    3. Dear Listmembers, My service provider had "highlighted" this as a sight to see. I thought that it was interesting enought to pass it along. It is about headstones that contain information, including genealogy records! Homepage http://www.leif.com/ examples with pictures http://www.leif.com/prod01.htm I would have not "spammed" for if I was able to type all of these out, I would have. Armstrong Co., married Annie ASHBAUGH, or John ROSENSTEEL, b. 4 July 1811, d. 28 Jan 1894. They belong to my husband and I'd better start producing some ancestors for him, or he's not going to continue to appear interested when I tell him what I found on my side! <very big grin> Thanks Joan Kunkle Spring Church, PA barval@kiski.net

    3. A very early Good Morning to all of you, I have had several requests in the past week or so for full obituaries from the past postings I have made of obituary extracts from The Leader Vindicator, New Bethlehem, Clarion Co. I truly hope to be able to provide that information, however.... I live in Albany, GA and was evacuated a week ago Tuesday due to our Flint River going on a rampage. Everything I own was packed up and crammed into a Ryder truck, in a scout hall and on a friends carport. Except for the stuff on the friends carport, everything else has been put back into the house this week and I still have at least 15 boxes that have not been opened. I would hope the old issues of the Leader Vindicator are in one of those boxes. Since there were at least a half dozen people here packing me up that I had never even seen before, I am hoping those newspapers were not used as packing material. Ladies, this "forced" spring housecleaning is not the way to go!! I am more than willing to share anything I have with fellow genealogists...when I find it again. My heart goes out to the 500 plus Albany homes that were flooded again (as I was flooded in 94). Please keep those families in your prayers. Joyce Sherry

    3. Doubt if Bradys Bend Armstrong Co. would've ever been part of Butler Co. I'd start checking histories and census of both counties. Armstrong had many Millers. Jim, Thanks for the reply. In the 1870 census, I expected to find John O Miller in Brady's Bend. Is Perry in Armstrong or Butler co? Rudolph Miller was son to John O and Nancy Snow Miller. Alex may have been a brother to John O Miller, but it has been difficult to track such a common last name as MILLER. The Nicholas SNOW family I did get a hard copy of the 1880 and 1870 census. These families were both in Brady's Bend. I wonder about 1860. I am not sure of the Nicholas SNOW in Perry TWP. The N. Snow in Brady's Bend fathers' name was also Nicholas Snow. The age is not right for the father of my Nicholas Snow because he was born in 1819. I read the census of 1870 and my Nicholas Snow to be 57, not 37. You might look closely, I believe this is my Nicholas Snow since his wife is named Rachel. I know my Nancy Elizabeth had a younger brother named George who was at her funeral. There is a George listed on the 1870 as 6 years under his father Nicholas and mother Rachel. The numbers you give for the roll, 1301 is not the same method that is used in the LDS library. What is this numbering system? Is it the number to use when ordering from the National Archives? Many thanks for the great information. I appreciate all your help. Regards, Maureen

I have the John Oliver Miller family and the papers the family has handed down through the years has noted that the children, specifically my grandmother, Susie Miller, was born in Brady's Bend, Butler County. I looked in the census for Butler County, and Brady's Bend is listed in Armstrong County only. The family is not in the 1870-1880 census in Brady's Bend, Armstrong County. I found my gggrandfather, Nicholas Snow and family, Nicholas Snow is the father of Nancy Elizabeth Snow Miller, wife of John Oliver Miller. John was a farmer and had land in the area. Family has said the land was on both Armstrong/Butler County lines. I wonder how they enumerated the census in this case and what I should do next. I know some of you are saying go to the Soundex for 1880, but the LDS library did not have that specific tape for the M's (Miller). Then I went to 1870 in hopes of find the family there. 3. My gggrandfather, David F. Shaner, of Apollo, Armstrong Co., m. MARTHA JANE OWENS. 1848 -1904. 1850 and 1860 census records for Westmoreland Co., Allegheny Twp., list LAZARUS (b. abt 1822) and ELIZABETH OWENS as parents of Martha Jane. In the same records, living immediately next door, are HUGH (b. abt 1170) and MARTHA OWENS, and I therefore have suspected that they are the parents of Lazarus. Now, however, in WFT, Vol.1 CD, I find a JOSEPH OWENS, b. abt 1781 in Wales, d. 12 June 1876 in Allegheny Twp., Westmoreland Co., and wife Elizabeth. They have children, from abt. 1803 - 1820, as follows: Ellen, Mary, John, Joshua, Samuel, Henry, and LAZARUS, b. abt 1820, d. 16 February 16, 1896, Washington Twp., Westmoreland Co. Could this be my Lazarus? I would appreciate any information or suggestions concerning this Owens family. Thanks very much, Sally Shaner sshaner@alaweb.com

    3. Stewardson Furnace is in Pine Twp. close to the town of Templeton. It isn't a town any longer. It is along Mahoning Creek and the furnace was built for coke in 1851. Operation was suspended in 1880. Two friends and myself just read the tombstones at Stewardson Furnace last year. We haven't gotten back to recheck our work, but perhaps I could help, if you have a name or two. On some maps where it is located at the bend in the Creek, the place is called Dee. Last year for our Gen. Club Quarterly, I abstracted some newspaper articles from the town of Dee. What do you need ? Connie M.
