    2. I remember seeing the name Greer, & Kline in land records in Westmoreland Co. in the 1780's. You can contact the Westmoreland County Courthouse and ask for a index of your surnames as grantors and grantees to find out when they bought and sold land in Westmoreland & part of Armstrong before it became Armstrong Co. 3. Hi MaryBeth....Welcome and I too enjoy the Armstrong list and find it one of the most lively and polite I have the pleasure of belonging to. I have, probably, one of your STITT'S as the dates match up. Recently when hitting block walls I have turned to the married surnames and found the Armstrong list people most helpful: John STITT, son of Dave STITT, married Laura HEILMAN, daughter of Simon and Susan SMITH HEILMAN and they resided at the foot of Meltzer Flats... Other children of Simon, born 1 Nov 1824, son of Daniel and Lydia YOUNT and Susan SMITH HEILMAN were: Ed; Laura (the one mentioned above) Lizzie; Nancy; Ann; Sam and Sara Ellen. These children may be siblings of your STITT marriage into the Heilman's and may provide some clues to your family. The Heilman family was well represented in Armstrong County as well as the Lehigh area and married into some of the more prevalent names of the area beteen 1750 and 1890. Good louck in your search, MaryBeth and I do hope we find we share relatves of these two well represented Armstrong families.... Monette

    3. I am looking for any information on the children of Samuel "Slease" GRUBBS and Mary M. KNEPSHIELD. Samuel(was also called Slease) was the son of George and Catherine Knepshield GRUBBS. He was born Aug 29, 1874 and died Jun 16 1949. Mary M. KNEPSHIELD was the daughter of John A. KNEPSHIELD and Sarah Jane REMALEY. She was born Jul 4, l867 in Armstrong Co., died Jan 10 1919. Both are buried in Spring Church Cemetery in Armstrong Co. I know of a daughter named Dora M. GRUBBS ( Mar 13 1901, Westmoreland Co.-July 7 1981) m. Doyle J. LAMBING (d. May 3 1969) Both are buried in Spring Church Cemetery. Does anyone know if Dora had any brothers or sisters? Thanks, Teresa

    3. Hi Sue, I have been looking for years for documentation on the Anna Susanna Sheaffer-Wilhelm Best marriage. Their daughter Catherine was supposedly married to Nicholas Silvius. Do you have any documentation for either of these marriages? All the researchers I have corresponded with claim to have oral tradition but nothing concrete either on the marriages or the parentage of Catherine. I have the estate settlement of Wilhelm Best, which includes all the orphan court records, and it names all the minor children and the oldest son but doesn't name the two children who were of age. Will share anything I have in exchange for documentation on Catherine and Nicholas and Susannah and Wilhelm. Thanks. Annie PS The land of Wilhelm Sr was sold to the oldest son according to the Orphan Court records, but there are no land records for this transaction nor is there a record of him selling the land. Since he left Northampton and went to Westmoreland County in the late 1700 I have never been able to figure out what eventually happened to the land. -----Original Message----- From: Bob <cyberbob@nb.net> To: PAARMSTR-L@rootsweb.com <PAARMSTR-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, March 29, 1998 6:10 PM Subject: Re: [PAARMSTR-L] The John George SMITH, Sr. Geneology >Jackie, > >Is this the same George Smith (1717-1756) who came to America on the >"Winter Galley" in 1738?
