If any one has info on these surnames I would really like to hear from you. These are all families in my tree. If any one has any books from this county could you do some look ups? Thanks Sher
Alan, This is what I have on my ANDRUS. Margaret ANDRUS b. 6 Jan 1823 PA (exact location unknown); d. 24 Apr 1902, Apollo PA (burial unknown); married to Richard WILMOT b. Jun 1791 Morris Co. NJ d. Jan 1866. Had 11 known children: Elizabeth, Amos, Samuel, William P., Nancy Jane(my direct line), David, Henrietta, Martha, James, Margaret, and last child unknown. I have a copy of an IGI index list from the FHC (Mormon church) that lists various ANDRUS' with a "Margett b. abt. 1833" ( I am guessing this date is in error, as is the spelling) and parents listed as Thomas ANDRUS and Eliza BARSLY. I have not confirmed my Margaret's parents but am "guessing" they are one and the same. Other ANDRUS' listed are Mabel, Truman C., Rodney, Thomas, Hiram, and Susan. Please respond with any info, as the surname ANDRUS is not that common. Sincerely, Marybeth C. ACMBJC@AOL.com
I just visited the URL that Clare so kindly posted on Easter Sunday. <<http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/>> It is outstanding!! Very informative with 'tons' of lists, suggestions, etc. Everyone should view it--new, old or in-between to genealogy. Thanks Clare--it's great!! Marybeth C. ACMBJC@AOL.com

I had seen several requests over the past month or so for information regarding the Bradys Bend Historical Society. I just finished publishing a website for them at the Armstrong County USGenWeb page. I'm still waiting on additional information, but it will give you a start. http://www.pa-roots.com/armstrong/bbhs/bbhs.html Enjoy! Hi y'all, I want to apologize to all of you for the inconvenience with the mass message mailings that we've been subjected to in the last couple of days. I've had over 1,000 postings that had to be deleted. Maybe folks need to be educated that when you reply to a message complaining about it, you are just perpetuating the entire chain. Because of this, I've closed all my mailing lists, which means that in order to post to the lists a person must join. I've also put the people who sent the messages and those who have kept the chain going on my reject list which means that they cannot join. This should solve the problem. This should be a lesson to all of us; when we want to send copies to others, limit our copies to 2 or 3 at one time. I'd had to loose the Rootsweb server because some inconsiderate people are just to lazy to do multiple mailings instead of copying to everyone at one time. Below is a copy of a letter from Rootsweb regarding this problem: Hi all - Here's an explanation of what's going on: Each of Rootsweb's mail servers is designed to receive about 1,500 incoming pieces of mail each day and deliver them to the list subscribers. Cross-posting an article to too many lists (say more than 5 lists) can seriously interfere with the operation of one of those servers. Why? Consider what happened this morning, when someone cross-posted an article to 50 lists. This particular thread, because it has been cross-posted to 50 lists and spawned about 20 replies that were also cross-posted, has by itself generated about 1,000 inbound messages. That's almost doubled the load on the server. That's bad. What's worse, the servers are designed to receive an inbound piece of mail on average about once each minute. When something is massively cross-posted to 50 lists, though, the server has to absorb essentially a whole hour's worth of work arriving within a few milliseconds. That *really* jars the machinery. And here's what's *really* bad: A few poor souls were subscribed to all or most of those 50 lists. Within the span of a few hours, they received 50 copies each of 20 messages. That means they were mailbombed by a 1000 pieces of e-mail, and that caused them all sorts of pain. So that's why RootsWeb discourages massive cross-posting. However, we haven't announced a formal policy because folks don't make this mistake too often, and anyway we're working on a technical solution that would simply make it impossible for users to accidentally do this. Thank goodness someone has finally put an end to this nonsense.
Re: GENEALOGICAL SUICIDE The long message that was sent to this list with copies to 25 others must cease. If anyone wishes to reply to the message, please do it privately and not to this list. I WILL PERMANENTLY REMOVE ANYONE WHO CONTINUES THIS THREAD! Y'all may not realize what sending messages with 25 copies can do to Rootsweb. Remember Maiser & how it was PERMANENTLY shut down by such acts. If you need to send copies of your messages to others, please, please limit each letter to no more than 2 copies at one time. And please cut & paste your replies. There is absolutely no reason when replying to a message to re send the entire original message. This must stop. Hi, I am looking for information on the Eberie family. Ralph A. Eberie or Robert Gene Eberie Their dates would be around the 1920's Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks, Sue Hilty
I will say one thing, this is the first time I've ever felt I've been spammed. Almost every mailing list I'm on was hit, I had 87 messages in my mail, was only about 12 real messages, all the rest were repeats...anyway, my two cents ---------- > I think that it is up to each person to verify the information in books, > WFT, LDS ancestral files and by all means the net. Eronious information > started way before the net, in books and before that by word of mouth. It > up to each individual to verify, correct, and continue their research. We > have enough rules already. It is not time to burn the books, take down the > web sites, get rid of Ancestral file, etc. That would be Genealogical > Suicide. Sharing information and correcting the eronious information is > the answer for me. Just my opinion. This is correct. What the internet offers is communication. Information, correct or not, can travel fast and far. The nature of our research hasn't changed, just the ability to access other people and resources. I have been inother hobbies, shortwave radio listening for one. You think you know a lot when you're working in a vacuum. Once you get out into the world, and participate in a community doing the same work, you find out about what you don't know, that there's a whole world of people out there who can share their knowledge and experience. Instead of a weekly newsletter in the mailbox, I get email. I have learned much about research and caution from those I've emailed over the last year. I'm a Guthrie descendant. In 1933, "American Guthries and Allied Families" wasa written, and has my grandfather in it. If I were to simply find it in the library, and had not talked to others, I would have thought this was the greatest thing and copied it all done. Now as time passes, I get a chance to collaborate research with people all over the country and the world, each with their own resources (some have wills, some have census, etc) we've been able to piece together the Guthrie families in western PA, and find the the book has made several key errors. Never could have corrected the record so quick without the internet. I only have relatives in my main file, all related, all linked, it's still large. If I have a common ancestor with another researcher, why can't we share our data? The internet has only made it more convenient And lastly, if you are sending you're files out, and there's data you're not sure of, or has conflicting versions, lay it all out in your notes. I've been going back lately thru all my ancestors, putting lots of research notes. When someone gets that portion of my file, they will be able to read all the questions and what ifs. I've been on this Marshall newslist for months. I've also got one of those bizarre Marshalls who I'm trying to track down. I read everything everybody has to say about Marshalls and I realize I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just put my guy out there. PJSTON's last posting to this list finally got me rolling. My Marshall moved to Ohio too, from PA. Here he his: John Marshall, b. abt 1762 , d. 27 Jul 1806, Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio. was the second husband of Catherine Truby. b. 1764, Northampton Co, Towamensing, PA, d. 9 Aug 1806, OH, Fairfield County, Lancaster. Catherine and John were married about 1798 in Westmoreland County, PA. Catherine's family I can trace from the day they immigrated to this country (maternal and paternal sides of the family - 1720's). I have an enormous data base on all their descendants. They are my great-great-great- grandparents. John pops up in Westmoreland County, PA, all of a sudden, married to Catherine (whose family moved there, to Greensburg, about 1772). I have done a considerable amount of work tracing all the other Marshalls in Westmoreland and Armstrong Counties. There is a large, very established Marshall family in these counties, all descended from William Marshall, b. 1722 in Ireland, married to Elizabeth Armstrong, born in Scotlland. who all immigrated from to America in 1748, first settled around Baltimore (Conecocheague), then spread out to Indiana County, PA, Armstrong Co., PA, Westmoreland County, PA and other PA counties. I got their history from Oscar Marshall's book and county histories. And MY JOHN MARSHALL IS NOT ONE OF THEIRS. What confuses me is that my John Marshall had his kids baptized in a German church in Westmoreland County. His wife, Catherine, who was the descendant of French Hugenots and German Moravians, would have attended this church, but I can't figure out how this Anglo guy got mixed up with these German-speaking folks, who were a pretty tight group. The Trubys were very prominent in Greensburg (Catherine's father, Christopher Truby, with William/Matthew Jack donated the land - for a buck or something in exchange - to build the original courthouse and was a Justice of the Peace and all that good stuff.) I don't think Catherine would have married some loose screw off the street, so to speak. Maybe his name was anglicized and he is a Marshel or something like that. HE IS NOT A MARCHAND, because I also did a pretty complete genealogy on that family and he is not one of theirs. So, what I find in the tax lists, is John Marshall suddenly owning Catherine's first husband's (Frederick Rohrer's) building in Greensburg just about the time he married her, but nothing conclusive in the tax lists before that. I can't make enough sense of the 1790 Census to tell if my John Marshall was in Westmoreland County by that date. I think all the John Marshalls in the tax lists and census before before 1796 were the William Marshall descendants. Now, there is a strong family tradition that our John Marshall was related to the family of John Marshall, the first Chief Justice. I'm working on that angle now, by following all the work of the people I've found on the Marshall list and online who have been tracing the family of the Chief Justice. If anybody has a clue what to do next, please help me. I guess I don't want to spend 20 years like PJSTON who has been looking for her Joshua Marshall that long. Thanks for any help. Jane

Hi Jane - rats! I do not have Christina but she could very well be one of my missing or one of the three children I do not have names on - Peter & Elizabeth HARTER Heilman had six daughters & six sons born in Armstrong County between 1776 & 1792. Elizabeth's sister-in-law or sister was named Christina Margaret (married to Martin HARDTER) and they were sponsors to Peter & Elizabeth's first born, daughter Christina Margaret HEILMAN.

Marybeth, I am glad you found the list helpful. I got them from the daily update from Ancestry here on the web. If you are not already using Ancestry, you might want to try them, since they have some of their databases free for the first ten days they are available.
