    3. I have noticed that every township seemed to have gone to the trouble of publishing a centennial album or bicentennial album that often gives information such as what you are seeking. I had the same situation: my greatgrandfather ran an inn/tavern/beer garden in Parker and I found out which one it actually was from the centennial album. I would imagine an historical/genealogical library in the local area would have copies of any centennial albums published even if they are no longer available. Jane

    3. 1860 Census Indiana Co.,PA Smicksburgh Borough Dwelling # 2520 William Stewart Age 47 HOTEL KEEPER Martha Stewart Age 41 Keeps House Isabell Stewart Age 21 Housekeeper Eliza Stewart Age 17 Housekeeper John Stewart Age 14 Eveline Stewart Age 12 Robert Stewart Age 10 Rebecca Stewart Age 8 Anjalin Stewart Age 6 The age of Isabella matches very close as to what I have according to the later census. Plus the presence of a Robert Age 10 in the above 1860 census matches the Robert age 20 in the 1870. William Stewart occupation as listed as a HOTEL KEEPER is interesting..being that Smicksburgh is/was a very small town in the 1860. Any idea how to locate perhaps what hotel he was a keeper at? Does anyone have this Stewart family in their family genealogy? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!! Pamela Randolph

    3. I have been working on many Armstrong County families for many years. My principal families are the Bruners and the Walters. My gg grandparents Henry Bruner and his wife Annie Peters lived in the Bagdad area by 1850. Their son David married Ella Margaret Walters, daughter of John Walters and Martha Elizabeth Moore. I have much information to share and am interested in all related individuals. I also collect postcards and am looking for some from Armstrong County. Linda Kleback

    3. Most people will come into Kittanning at the intersection of 422, 66 and 28. The Allegheny River will be on your left. Pass through the stop light and keep the river on your left. You will be on Water Street. Several blocks will bring you to Market Street. On your left is a bridge that crosses the Allegheny, on your right several blocks up is the Courthouse. You will need to be in the right hand lane. Turn right unto Market Street, head for the courthouse. Just before the courthouse, turn left unto North Grant. Proceed two blocks. Cit-Go gas station on your left, over its roof is the McCain House Museum. Parking is along this street. The Carriage House is beside the McCain House Museum. Meeting at 2:00 p.m. Speaker on Courthouse Research in PA.

The Kittanning newspaper, the Leader Times does have old newspapers on microfilm (don't know how far back), but apparently doesn't have a microfilm reader. I was told that I would have to go to the newspaper office and pay a $20/order deposit to get any film(s) I needed, then go to the Kittanning branch campus of Indiana University of PA to read it. They do not have anyone there who does this research. A week or so ago I posted a message to the list asking if anyone who lives in the area would be willing to lend me some assistance in getting a copy of an obituary, but so far no one has responded. I am not sure of their death date, but believe they died in Armstrong County. Nicholas and Rachel had a daughter, Nancy. Nancy (and husband John Oliver Miller) had a daughter die in the area in July 1879. Is there a library that will look up obituaries or another source I might contact? I would appreciate information or advice on how to begin the search on this. Many thanks, Maureen

I believe the marriage would have been made in a Roman Catholic Church. Does anyone know of the Parish(s) that would have been in existence in Allegheny Township in 1850?
