Hi, Can anyone help me find what cemetary my grandmother might be in. Here is what I have: Mary Ina Hoover Reid or Reed died in Feb. of 1915 at age 23. She was living in Yatesboro, Pa at the time. Her parents Elizabeth and Zenas were living in Dayton, Pa. then. I know they are buried at Atwood Cemetary but since she died first I don't know wher he is. Also does anyone know if this is Armstrong Co and if so where do I send for a copy of the death cert and what do they charge? Thanks in advance. Gretchen
Thought this was interesting because of her name and her surnames. This is from a PA list. Hi As far as I know there was never a regimental history published for the 139th. There are histories for the 14th. Cavalry and the 63rd., 78th. 103rd. and 155th. Infantry units all of which are available from mechlingbooks.com. I think the hardest fought and most interesting regiment with Armstrong County boys was the 63rd. involved in many of the more famous battles such as Gettysburg, Fredricksburg, Wilderness etc. The most interesting and well written, I believe, is the 155th. History. It was written, in part, by one of the participants from Dayton, Sgt. William Porter and I will always remember his comment about how he and his comrades were all old and sick before their time as a result of what they endured. Porter had great insight and was a seasoned and decorated soldier and was a man to be admired both then and now. Fred Brient

Hello, I'm looking for any info. on the Hoover or Reid Families of Armstrong County. I know my great grandparents were Elizabeth and Zenas H. Hoover both born in 1860. They had many children one of whom was Mary Ina Hoover born 1893 and married to Alexander Reid 12/1/1911 in Baltimore Maryland. I'm not positive of that because I haven't found any confirmation. I do know they had 3 children, Margaret b. 3/20/1912 Ina b. 5/20/1913 & Alex b. 11/4/1914. Mary died 2/1915. Any info on this family would be appreciated. Thank you, Gretchen

Try www.freedrive.com. 5MB is available free for file storage (used to be 20MB but it changed next week). It is VERY easy to use. Dear Pearl and Mickey, As a post script to all you have said, at a workshop I attended this spring, they also recommended that we 'store' our family information on the 'NET' in free space. They were not referring to any of the genealogy business sites, but said there is free space provided of about 150 kb units, where we can store our information that is only accessible by 'our chosen password', and so no one has access to it without our permission. Their comment was that papers and discs can be destroyed by flood, wind or fire. Power outages and computer failures keep computer files vulnerable. If it is also on the 'Net' then it is protected three ways. Thanks for all of your other ideas. Mickey: Thank you for your advise about hard copies!!We are so afraid of losing our research that my son put an external Omega Hard Drive and I make a copy for 100 zip every three weeks and keep the information also on my portable computor. We also keep a copy of the zip in my daughters safe at another location. My children and grandchildren know how important my research is and my only hope is that they will continue to benefit from it, after I am gone. I have over 43,000 names of friends and relatives on my index now and research primarly Clarion County, but also Armstrong and Butler Counties..We can go back over 10 generations, past the Revolutionary War on three sides of my large family...William Stewart, then continues back to Fort Stewart in Ireland and the peerage lists much further back in Scotland. Just wanted to remind some of the new people on the list about the importance of "hard copies" when doing genealogy research. Case in point - While most of us have come to rely on computers and software programs to make our record keeping more organized, how many of us have family members that would not have the slightest idea "how" to retrieve our data should something happen to us unexpectedly? Please get into the habit of not only backing up your computer data onto another source, but get into the habit of printing out "hard copies" of your information. Then teach someone how your "particular system" of record keeping works! Find someone to take over the reins when you can no longer do the work yourself. If you can't find another family member - make sure that your work is passed onto a local genealogy society. While "no one" wants all of their "hard work" stolen away from them, I personally would rather have the whole world steal my work, than to have it all get thrown away, or locked away in some dark closet. Sharing is what makes all of this hard work, so much fun. And for those of you that know me personally, you know that I speak from my heart. Please make sure that "all" of "your hard work" is not lost when you are gone! I am not sure about what you are referring to, but will tell you, there is a book, "Early Deaths and Marriages in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania From Kittanning Area Newspapers," compiled by Constance Leinweber Mateer. It lists from 1819 to 1844, and available from the Historical Society in Kittanning, PA. I do not know the cost of it now, but when I got it, it was $15.00. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, June 24, 2001 6:54 PM Subject: [PAARMSTR-L] Armstrong Co. I believe I saw a reference recently to a record of Armstrong County Marriages for dates 1852-1855. Does anyone have this or can tell me where to find it? Thanks Rose Adams
Would anyone have info about John Hinderliter born circa 1800 whose spouse was Elizabeth Coleman? Thanks, Pat
Thomas - Thank you for both bits of info. I'm not sure how the cemetery listing relates, though it probably does somehow. But I can certainly use some of the census and military records you have so thoughtfully forwarded for me. Thank you again for your help!
