Hi Charles, In your Morrison research have you come across the following family? My Chaney line lived in the Tidal area, Armstrong Co. The following is all the information I have on Anna - would like to learn more. I don't know her birth or death date, if she moved to Ohio or if her family moved there after her death. Her parents, John Chaney and Suphronia Myers, married about 1858. My Chaney line comes from her brother, William Wallace Chaney. Thanks, Lona [email protected] WILLIAM B1 MORRISON He married ANNA L CHANEY, daughter of JOHN CHANEY and SUPHRONIA MYERS. She was born in Pa., and died Bef. 1898. I have had several responses to my request for a lookup in these with no results. There were other questions however so I am posting this to the entire list. I have finally decided to start researching my Western Pennsylvania Ancestors. This is regarding the family of James B Morrison, blacksmith. The family appears in the Sugar Creek Township in 1860 and in East Franklin in 1870. In that family is Nancy Morrison age 13 in 1860 who married 1865 in Bradys Bend a William Penberthy. My ancestors. The death record for Nancy, 1926, completed by son James b.1856, said she was 79 and born in Armstrong Co and that her father was James B Morrison and mother was Rebecca Schreder. (secondary information!) I have been unable to locate an 1850 census record. The 1860 record is the correct one because the children's names are mentioned in later family letters. The mother in the 1860 record is a Mary Ann which is a long way from Rebecca unless it is a second marriage. I have looked at census records for all Morrisons in Armstrong 1850 and all J / James Morrisons in Armstrong, Venango and Butler Co. The James Morrison in Bradys Bend page 032 in 1850 is not the correct person. I suspect he was called James B Morrison to differentiate from the other James Morrison. I did notice in the will indexes as listing for a James Morrison for 1892 so I will pursue that next. Next stop the local FHC for land, will, court and church records. I go back to Atlantic City for vacation each year and spend 1-2 days researching at the Historic Society of Pennsylvania. Last trip I saw they had a number of rolls of bible records from Armstrong so I will put in a day there. I have looked at spelling variations of Morrison, Morris, Morisson, Morrissonn etc. I am about halfway through the line by line examination of the 1850 Armstrong census but don't believe I will find everything. More information can be found on my web page which is still at www.fastlane.net/~johnh . This will be moved soon because fastlane threw out all us dial up customers. I can always be reached now at [email protected]

Linda, Go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/. You may also want to join the Stewart mail list. It's also accessable from that webpage. BTW, the Stewarts of Indiana, Indiana Co are the family of Jimmy Stewart, the actor. Jimmy's father had a hardware store in downtown Indiana (city). There is a story that Jimmy's Oscar was in the front window of the hardware store for years. >Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 07:55:40 -0700 >From: "Watson, Linda (FRTC_NY)" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: [PAARMSTR-L] Indiana County > >Can anyone tell me if there is list similar to this one for Indiana County. > >I was researching my family in Armstrong County, but now think my >gg-grandfather lived in Indiana first. Interested in the MARKLE family of Armstrong County, specifically any children of Jonathan and Eva. Linda
Can anyone tell me if there is list similar to this one for Indiana County. I was researching my family in Armstrong County, but now think my gg-grandfather lived in Indiana first. My grandmother once told me she used to visit some family in Indiana as a child, so I do think the Robet Stewart in the 1880 Indiana Census is my gg-grandfather. The age is right. I am now baffled as to why he has a different last name as the people who are listed with him and don't know what my next step should be. If any of you have any connections to Stewart's or Kerr's from Indiana, please contact me. Thanks! Linda Watson [email protected] (800) 541-0556 x7917 Armstrong Co, PA 1910 ED 11, Fam. 150 Robert A. A poor choice of words. The web site data did not have anything I was looking for and the person whose name is on the Armstrong Co Genweb site who offered to do lookups did not respond. Anyone going to Queenstown on that old rt 68 (I think) between Petrolia and Bradys Bend) be very careful especially if it rains. We went over it couple years ago and all of a sudden found ourselves a 180 turn and onto the other side of the road and a truck just missed us. It is slick and curvy, but beautiful. Injecting amusing stories, he will show how one Pittsburgh neighborhood reflected national trends. Since many families in the Greater Pittsburgh Metropolitan area can trace their roots to the historic community of Lawrenceville, the lecture will also focus on available resources for genealogical research and address what the historic communities must do to preserve the records of the past. The presentation will also trace the area from a struggling village in a rural area in 1826 with a population of 200 to a metropolitan community in 1900 with between 30,000 and 33,000 residents. While historical events will be mixed into the lecture, most of the talk will focus on how the English, Irish, Swedes, Germans, Polish, Solvenians and other ethnic groups built churches, fraternal organizations and founded newspapers. Also, the heyday of ethnicity prior to WW II will be discussed, as will be causes that led to the decline of ethnic identification in more recent times. Exhibits will supplement the presentation. Hello to all. I have had a genealogical breakthrough in the past few weeks. I have found a MISSING member of my HAWK branch of my family (and wife and family) in Goochland Co., VA. This is the line I am speaking of: David b. 14 June 1820 (reportedly by some as 26 May 1823) Armstrong Co., PA; d. 25 Dec 1876, Indiana Co., PA; m. Esther JOHN b. abt. 1824/1827? Washington twp., Armstrong Co PA; d. 1892/1895? Armstrong Co. PA, washington twp, ?; (**Esther re-married one of her cousins a Martin JOHN after David died.**) ...William Henry HAWK b. One of my cousins of William's line (and his wife), will be traveling to Armstrong County the weekend of July 22 and 23 and possibly into the next week. Are any of you of the line of David HAWK (George HAWK, JR.; George HAWK, SR.) and/or Esther JOHN (Martin JOHN, JR.; Martin JOHN, SR.; also of the line of: Matthias SR. and JR. BAUSSER/BOWSER) listed above? If so, do ANY of you still live in Armstrong Co. and could perhaps show my cousin and wife around the area? My cousin doesn't know I have asked this question to our list, just thought I would try to help him out. Please reply to me off list at: [email protected] One question from me: Do ANY of you know possibly, where Esther JOHN daughter of Martin JOHN, JR. and Mary CRISMAN/CRISSMAN is buried? Looking for any information on Charles and Sarah "Sadie" MOSS and their children: Townsend and Luella (or Nora) MOSS living in the Cadogan/Ford City/Kittanning area around the turn of the century. Charles died in the 1890s and the 1900 Armstrong Co (Kittanning Twp) census lists Sarah as the wife of Franklin FASSTER? with her children in that household. Have recently found the cemetery (Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery on Alt. 66) containing Charles, Townsend and wife Frances, Luella and husband Fred Aubrey. Wondering whatever happened to Sarah "Sadie." Would love to connect with their descendants. Ruth in NC.
